Sam Raimi to Direct The Shadow? Plus, Details on the Script

Brendon Connelly writes:

Until somebody actually comes out and makes an official announcement, I’m sure there’s going to be countless rumours about Sam Raimi’s choice of next film. Here’s today’s.

We already knew that Sam Raimi was producing the new feature film version of The Shadow. Apparently, he’s now keen to take up the director’s reigns too. Doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch, does it? And what do you reckon - does it get easier or harder to swallow if I tell you The Shadow is set up at Sony?

If Raimi does take the picture on, this would make The Shadow the third superhero to take the lead in a Raimi movie, after Spider-Man and Darkman. I think that’s what the mugs call an auteur.

this comes out sometime in Feb, so ...
i WAS digitally inking the book up intil this point, but got sick of that and went for the ol' traditonal brush 'n' pen. felt nice to do so after not for so long.

for all the previous issues, i did small layouts, then drew directly on the boards. this time i drew small, tight layouts, then blew them up on the artograph. did some pencil fixes, but left most everything else up to the inking. interestingly enough, this process was way less stressful then the previous process.

C'MON HOLLYWOOD: Give us Sam Raimi's Warcraft next!‎

J.A. Hamilton writes:
Thus far the new year hasn’t been kind with news like last week’s Spider-Man column and I’m not too keen on the CONAN news either but we’ll save that for later as more details emerge. So what I need is some good news and I have just the push for that direction. Sam Raimi may have made an enemy or two with SPIDER-MAN 3 but he was soon forgiven after this past summer’s DRAG ME TO HELL. Well I say let’s keep going on a high note straight into the live action WARCRAFT movie. Raimi knows his stuff, and after successfully delivering on the horror goods, the comic book goods and even the western goods (THE QUICK AND THE DEAD if you didn’t know), I’m confident he can tackle the world of Azeroth.

CHATTING WITH... Ted Raimi

B.J. Hammerstein writes:
Although he has lived there for more than 20 years, Ted Raimi has a hard time calling Hollywood home. One look at his résumé, however, proves it's where he's leaving his mark. Raimi has had 50 or so TV and film roles, most of them in horror or sci-fi projects. Still, he's quick to credit much of his quirky creative success to his Motor City upbringing.

"Southwest Detroit just looks so sci-fi, cool and bizarre -- like another planet," and "all those wacky and crazy characters I have ever done are just impressions from people I knew back home," says Raimi.

He's the youngest of four Raimi brothers, three of whom have found their calling in La La Land. Sam Raimi shook up the scream scene in 1981 as director of instant cult classic "The Evil Dead" before spinning a moneymaking web as director of three "Spider-Man" movies. (Ted was in all three.) Ivan Raimi cowrote the scripts for Sam's "Drag Me to Hell" and "Spider-Man 3."

Even though plans for a Raimi-run version of "Spider-Man 4" have just been scrapped, Ted's as busy as ever: Last week, he was offered a "beloved character" movie lead from a major comic book company, but that's all he'll say about it. ("Anything more, it's curtains for Ted!") Meanwhile, "Playing Dead," a comedy-horror Webisode series that he directed, is currently haunting the Internet.

Evil Dead | Geek in the City

Greetings programs! Let us just get straight to the point - Sam Raimi’s masterpiece of terror returns to Portland on February 12, 2010 at the Bagdad Theater at 11:00pm

For a mere $5, you can see the film that Roger Ebert declared “One of the most deplorable movies ever made”, while Stephen King called it “The most ferociously original horror film of the year.” I ask you, when it comes to scaring the holy crap out of you, who you gonna’ believe? The man that hailed Tomb Raider as a “wild and fun ride” or the master of modern horror?

Yeah, that’s what I thought ya’ primitive screwheads!

This is no DVD popped into a player and projected onto the big screen. No my friends, this is the original 35mm print. And, when I say the “Original 35mm Print”, I ain’t joking. This is the print. This is Sam Raimi’s personal damn print! You read right suckas. Sam Raimi has graciously loaned Sage Stallone and Murawski of Grindhouse Releasing the rights to run this classic nasty flick across our fine union. Taken from the Chin’s mouth: “Nothing can prepare an audience for what they are about to see, because nothing punishes an audience like EVIL DEAD - especially on the big screen,” says Bruce Campbell. “I’m really glad it’s back. People are gonna be hurt.”

Tell your friends. Tell your enemies. Tell your priest. The Evil Dead has returned to Portland “Frakking” Oregon on Friday February 12, 2010 at 11:00pm. Keep tuning into this site and GeekintheCity Radio for more details.

"Spartacus: Blood and Sand" Roundup

Hank Stuever
writes:
Produced by the likes of "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi and spun around by "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" writer Steven S. DeKnight, this re-imagining of the legendary slave-turned-gladiator's epic tale has a sleazy charm that gets better with each episode.

It's also just about the grimiest, nastiest, bloodiest thing you could hope to find on TV on a Friday night. Limbs fly. Blood splatters everywhere. One warrior rips off the face of another and wears it as a mask to his next fight. There's lots of soft-core love scenes: Spartacus and his bride frolic around like the original "Joy of Sex" cartoon drawings. Lucretia and Batiatus have their slaves serve as marital aides.

I am one of those people that consider the film, The Evil Dead to be amongst the upper 10% of the best films ever made. I also believe its sequel, Evil Dead 2, to be amongst the top 5 best films ever made. Evil Dead's impact on music is marginal to say the least, but it has had an impact of sorts.

More Info from Bruce Campbell - Dark Horse Comics: Bruce Vs. Frankenstein

Referring to Ain't It Cool News' story from late last night:
As a result of this leak, Mike Richardson has Bruce bound and gagged in a secret room of which only he knows the location. We did learn that Mark Verheiden will return to write it and Ted Raimi will play a KEY role in the film. Richardson says he will release Campbell sometime in the near future when "Bruce learns to keep his big mouth shut."

How about all three of the Ladies of the Evil Dead in the sequel?

Book Of The Dead - Collectables Page Now Online!

From www.bookofthedead.ws:
The main 'Collectables' index page is now online. It aims to be the ultimate comprehensive reference list of all the the official and unofficial Evil Dead trilogy related merchandise available in the past or present. The material listed, ranges from mass produced items down to one-off fan made items, and everything in between. Rather than spilt the items down in to sub-page after sub-page, we've decided to have everything together on one huge page, so it might take a minute or so to to load as there are nearly 800 individual items listed, all with pictures.

We've decided to restrict the 'Collectables' section to just the main index page for the time being, with a long term goal of expanding it to include 'More Details' sub-pages linked from the main list, with additional photos, specs & information about each item.

Because of the vast array of official and unofficial items which have been made over the years, knowing about & cataloguing every single past present & future item ever produced is virtually impossible, and the section can never really be certified 100% complete. It will simply remain 'in progress' for the foreseeable future, with periodic updates of new items from time to time. If you have anything we don't, please get in contact and let us know so we can add it to this list.

Bruce Campbell announces My Name Is Bruce sequel: ‘Bruce Vs Frankenstein!’

Quint
at aintitcool.com writes:
Listen up, screwheads! Bruce Campbell has a message for ya'!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. While doing my own spy business in NoLa (just took a rather frightening trip down Bourbon St, actually... The tip top of the creepy was a homeless dude showing off his Quato-like stomach tumor) I received this communinque from Mr. Bruce Campbell regarding his 2010 plans. This is the first time he's broken his cover and he did it for you, the fans, so I hope you appreciate the danger he's put himself in!

Here's the man himself:

Hello everyone. Bruce Campbell here. This urgent message is short, because my keystrokes are monitored and I fear for my life. My partner at Dark Horse comics, Mike Richardson (normally a very rational and talented man), threatened to have his foot soldiers "crush my spleen" if I did what I am about to do. But the fans deserve to know, so with great trepidation I officially announce Bruce Vs. Frankenstein, the sequel to My Name is Bruce. Principal photography begins this fall in Oregon. I'd like to live long enough to see the cameras roll, so please, for the love of God, do not tell anyone - I can't risk this announcement getting back to Mike! Thank you.

There you have it. I know I'd love to see Bruce step back into the Blue Suede Shoes and kick some vampire ass in Bubba Nosferatu, but I guess anything Bruce does is good news, yeah?

More Updates on Sam Raimi's Warcraft Film - Tapert reveals the development status of the film

movieweb.com
writes:
We reported last week that Sam Raimi could move on to do Warcraft: Rise of the Lich King as his next film and now some new details have emerged on the film. IF Magazine recently spoke to producer Rob Tapert who revealed the status of Warcraft: Rise of the Lich King.

"It's in development," says Tapert. "We're in the outline/story/script phase."

However, while it was said that this could be Raimi's next film, Tapert isn't sure that will be Raimi's next film.

"I think he's getting his feet under him and trying to decide. He might want to do a teeny, tiny small film, but I don't know what he wants to do. I know he had a great time doing Drag Me to Hell."

‘Spartacus’ Returns to a New Arena - the Small Screen - Sex and Gore? That’s Ancient History

“Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” a retelling of the history of the famous slave and his rebellion, does not neglect any of these traits. It features abundant nudity, both male and female. (“In the early days we had a lot of conversations about how many penises we could show in a single episode,” Rob Tapert, one of the producers, recalled recently.) There is a great deal of simulated sex, of both the gay and straight variety. And the subtitle is not false advertising: the characters do not merely bleed; they spray great fountains and gouts, arterial geysers, that splash up on the inside of your TV screen or else hang in midair like red Rorschach blots. Mr. Tapert and his co-producer, Sam Raimi (better known as the director of the “Spider-Man” films), got their start with the “Evil Dead” horror-movie franchise, and the new show at times suggests their early experiments with high-pressure circulatory systems. “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,” Mr. Tapert admitted.

It’s really great though". The last question he was asked about Bubba Nosferatu was who he wanted to play Elvis in the movie. He answered: "We were talking to Ron Perlman to play Elvis. Featured eBay Item: Army of Darkness - Arthur's Armour- SCREEN USED "HERO"

This is the actual screen-used "hero" armour costume worn by actor Marcus Gilbert playing the role of Lord Arthur in the 1992 released cult classic film "Army of Darkness", directed by Sam Raimi. The film starred Bruce Campbell in the role of Ash and "Evil" Ash.

Only one armour for this character was made, and no stunt double pieces were produced. This "Hero" version of this armour is the only one that exists anywhere. Due to the rarity of this piece and the cult popularity of the film, a significant starting bid has been placed on this item.

THIS IS A TRUE COLLECTOR'S ITEM FROM THE CULT CLASSIC FILM- NEVER TO BE OFFERED AGAIN. DON'T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY! IF YOU'VE BEEN A DIE-HARD FAN OF THIS CULT CLASSIC, THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO OWN A PIECE OF MOTION PICTURE HISTORY!

This armour was entirely handmade by armourer Jeffrey Hedgecock in 1991, in his workshop at the time- "Vorhut Fahnlein Arms & Armour" in San Diego CA.

The armour is fully wearable and made of steel, though not suited for combat due its light guage thickness. It has been professionally conserved and retains the exact condition of the piece when filming concluded.

It includes the following pieces:
Helmet
Breast and backplates
Shoulders
Arms
1/2 gauntlets
Thigh plates
Shin plates

Bruce Campbell's Five Favorite Movies

Did you really expect Bruce Campbell to have only one horror movie on his short list of favorites? Rediscovering the Japanese Horror Flick House

Michael Atkinson writes:
It may be impossible not to be stunned into dumbness by Nobuhiko Obayashi's Hausu (House), an incredibly 1987 Japanese horror lark that was actually made in 1977. An uncanny prophecy of Sam Raimi's Evil Dead 2 a decade later, this exhumed freaker conjoins New Agey schoolgirl farce and the cheesiest then-there-were-none haunted-house dynamic imaginable, while the painted backdrop skies suggest Teletubbies and the special effects run from solarized-video-absurd to cardboard-hilarious.

Spartacus enters new-series arena

Jeanne Jakle writes:
The way Raimi, fellow executive producer Rob Tapert and head writer Steven S. DeKnight tell it, the story of the legendary slave is worlds apart from the Spartacus Kirk Douglas and Stanley Kubrick gave us. Because of the heavy use of digital technology, it has the feel of a graphic novel.

“We didn't want to do horror,” said Tapert, a longtime collaborator with Raimi on everything from Xena to The Evil Dead. “We wanted to show gladiators battling in the arena. We wanted to bring some of the technological tools that are available to heighten action and utilize those. And as a byproduct of it, blood was spilled in a way that it was different to give it more of a balletic feel.”

“Hey, this is a show that has action, has blood, has sex, has all of those components that you don't get on network television,” Tapert said, “but all of that is just the initial wave from which behind really good drama is awaiting.”

Five Things We'll Miss About Sam Raimi & Tobey Maguire's 'Spider-Man' Franchise

Josh Wigler writes:
Some fans might point towards continuity deviations, an overabundance of villains and excessive dance sequences as reasons to look forward to the new direction of "Spider-Man." But if we're being honest with each other — was it really all bad?

I have a lot of fondness for the original "Spider-Man" trilogy, and I doubt that I'm alone. While I'm certainly curious about the franchise's future, I can't help feeling some nostalgia for the old movies as they're on their way out.

What next for Sam Raimi?

Simon Brew writes:
As the fallout continues over Sony's cancellation of Spider-Man 4, there could be an unexpected upside to director Sam Raimi's departure from the Spider-Man director's chair. It seemed fairly clear that, just with Spider-Man 3, Sony wasn't giving Raimi the freedom to make the film he wanted to make, and as those of us who sat through Drag Me To Hell last year can testify, an unshackled Raimi makes for one of America's most interesting directors.

The upside, therefore, is that it leaves Raimi free to tackle one of the other projects with which he's been linked over the years.

Clearly top of the list for many of us is the long-mooted Evil Dead 4, which Raimi has been working on the script for. Could it be a project he turns to that allows him the control that he clearly wasn't getting with Spider-Man 4?

One thing we'd wager, though: we bet which project Raimi does - and we really hope it's Evil Dead 4 - doesn't end up at Sony...

11 Geeky Ideas for Casting the New Rockford Files

Kevin Makice
writes:
Twitter was buzzing a little this weekend about NBC’s plans to relaunch the 1970s hit television series, The Rockford Files. The big question now is who will play the roguish private eye as he tackles cases no one else wants to handle.

My first reaction at hearing NBC was going to cast anyone other than Garner as Jim Rockford was scorn. Then I thought of Bruce Campbell, and the remake sounded appealing. There is no actor more universally loved by geeks than the man who showed how a chainsaw can be a fortuitous replacement for a lost hand. He gained some crime-fighting experience as an Old West bounty hunter (The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.) and has fought alongside the world’s greatest warrior (Xena) and its most resourceful spy (Burn Notice).

Sony said the next Peter Parker film will also be released a year later than originally scheduled, with the fourth installment in its blockbuster franchise (worldwide gross to date: nearly $2.5 billion) now set to premiere in the summer of 2012.
