NECA unleashes Possessed Ashy Slashy to haunt Dana DeLorenzo (again!)

Without question, one of the most entertaining scenes during the three-season series run of STARZ’s “Ash vs. Evil Dead” happened in Season 2 in 2016, when star Dana DeLorenzo’s kick-ass Ghostbeater, Kelly Maxwell, encounters a Muppet-like hand puppet in villain Baal’s insane asylum. Named “Ashy Slashy” after the institution’s newest resident Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell), the foul-mouthed, wise-ass puppet was first introduced as a warm and fuzzy therapy companion to Ash, but quickly turned to the dark side when he met Kelly.

Two years later …  just when you thought it was safe to go back to Sesame Street (or more appropriately Avenue Q) … movie and TV collectibles-maker NECA has released its second full-scale version of the Ashy Slashy hand-puppet, the Possessed Ashy Slashy. Unlike the first release of Ashy Slashy last year, the possessed version has jagged teeth and a chainsaw with its own set of teeth sticking out of its blade. In short, he’s battle-ready for those who dare to bring him to life to take a bite out of anybody who gets in his way.

Dramatic Publishing Company Celebrates EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL's 15th Anniversary

Dramatic Publishing Company announced today that August marks the 15th anniversary of the first performance of EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL, the cult sensation to which it holds exclusive representation of North American professional and amateur stage performance rights. https://www.dramaticpublishing.com/evil-dead-the-musical

The only musical in history to be based on a series of movies (The Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness), EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL made its debut in August 2003 in the back room of a small bar called the Tranzac Club. In 2004, the show opened in Montreal as a featured attraction at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival. In November 2006, EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL made its off-Broadway debut in New York City, where it was praised by both the fans and critics alike.

"Fifteen years ago EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL performed its very first performance," says its author, George Reinblatt. "It was on the night of the Eastern Seaboard blackout-so we got off to a bit of a crazy start, having to perform on the street outside the theatre, but since that night, this show has been on an even crazier ride than we could have ever imagined. Over 220 cities. Over 300 productions. Thousands of gallons of blood. #4 on the Billboard Charts. And somehow gaining the most extremely loyal fanbase in musical history along the way. For a small show that was supposed to play seven performances in a bar in Toronto (and that's it), this has been an amazing ride. And amazingly, this is turning into our busiest year yet-we're performing in 30 cities simultaneously this fall!"

Fan’s “Ash vs. Evil Dead” Tribute Video Might Actually Move You to Tears

Today, the final season of Starz’s “Ash vs. Evil Dead” arrives on DVD and Blu-ray, bringing the end to Ash Williams’ epic, decades-spanning story into your home video collection, right alongside The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness. With Bruce Campbell officially retired as Ash, it’s truly over this time, and we can’t help but be in a sappy mood all over again this week. Mind you, Campbell is still voicing Ash for an upcoming video game, but it seems pretty safe to say that we’ll never again see him actually on screen as the character.

Not to depress you too much, but YouTube’s xHeather360x just cut together an absolutely brilliant tribute to the entirety of the Evil Dead saga, particularly focused on the three seasons of “Ash vs. Evil Dead” that Starz gifted us with. It’s a wonderful “in memoriam” piece for the story of Ash Williams, cut together so well that you might even squeeze out a couple tears.

The third and final season of Ash vs Evil Dead arrives on Blu-ray this Tuesday, August 21, and with it the final bow from Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams. The actor has portrayed the reluctant hero for nearly 40 years, taking Ash from innocuous bystander to wisecracking deadite slayer to finally a man with a deadite fighting family of his own. For thirty episodes, Starz let Campbell and team loose on screen, unleashing torrents of blood, gore, humor, and heart, culminating in one epic finale that serves as Ash’s swan song. Or is it?

Bruce Campbell's Proudest Moment as Ash Was Seeing 'The Evil Dead' Play in Theaters

Bruce Campbell debuted as Ash Williams in 1981's The Evil Dead, going on to reprise his role in two sequels and three seasons of a TV series, in addition to multiple video game appearances. The actor retired from the role earlier this year and, looking back at all he has accomplished with the character, he is still most proud to have seen the first film debut at his local movie theater.

Bruce Campbell Details the Future of the 'Evil Dead' Franchise and Remake Sequel Possibility

After starring in three Evil Dead films and three seasons of Ash vs. Evil Dead, Bruce Campbell has left the franchise that helped launch his career behind. While he might be done portraying Ash Williams, Campbell knows the series has plenty of avenues to explore without him.

"You have Ash's daughter, Brandy. She provides the lineage. Ray [Santiago] is a shaman now, you know as Pablo, and Kelly's just a full-on Lucy Lawless type badass who's got vengeance in her eyes," Campbell shared with ComicBook.com. "So, that's enough for me, three's a good number. I would also continue the movies with Mia, with Jane Levy, because she's awesome."

The Evil Dead launched the franchise in 1981, with Campbell starring in the original films and being intrinsically linked with the series. The 2013 remake saw Campbell serving as a producer, though the Ash character didn't appear. Now that he's retired from the series, Campbell would happily encourage new stories to be developed.

"I have great affinity toward the series. It got me into the film business, but there's only so much I can do now, but the trick is, why not encourage other people?" the actor pointed out. "I wouldn't mind seeing another Ash. Get in there bud, what do you got?"

The remake was directed by Fede Alvarez, who has delivered audiences Don't Breathe and the upcoming The Girl in the Spider's Web. Alvarez has regularly expressed interest in making a sequel, though Campbell thinks that would be unlikely.

"We'd be lucky if we got [Alvarez for a sequel]. Fede has a career. Fede's going to be unaffordable very soon," Campbell joked. "[Original Evil Dead director] Sam Raimi picked him out of nowhere when you would just pick another guy, but I have to say, Fede, I'm so pleased for him. He was able to crawl out from under the Evil Dead shadow, make his own second movie, which was really crazy, and then start making mainstream movies now with big actresses. It's great, I love it."

Despite his enthusiasm to see the Evil Dead franchise continue, Campbell isn't holding out hope that there will be any major developments in the franchise for the foreseeable future.

"We'll see where the Evil Dead road goes. There's no puppet master though," the actor admitted. "I don't think Sam Raimi's sitting in his office going, 'Okay, now we move the chess piece over here. We do this.' It's always been a ramshackle operation. We're sort of like a franchise with a small f. It was never meant to really be a franchise. So, I don't know, we'll see what happens."

Fans can enjoy Campbell's final portrayal of Ash when Season Three of Ash vs. Evil Dead hits Blu-ray on August 21st.

Castle Rock’s Jane Levy Is Horror's Secret Weapon

Excerpt:
I am a huge proponent of the 2013 Evil Dead remake. It's so gross.

Jane Levy: Thanks! Yeah, when I read Evil Dead, I was working on an ABC sitcom called Suburgatory, but I read Evil Dead and I thought it was just so ridiculous and funny and just so extreme that I thought, This would be the diametrically opposite job I could take right after finishing the first season of this TV show. I really wanted that part. And then from then on, continuing to work in the horror genre hasn't been something I've been looking for necessarily, but they do come to me.

Why do you think that is, besides Fede Alvarez wanting to work with you again on Don't Breathe?

I've thought a lot about why that is. Some of it is just that it's an industry where if you're in one thing that's successful, people think about you in that way and continue to ask you to do parts like that.

But I also think that there's something about my sensibility. Nothing gets me to the movie theater quicker than horror. I like things that push buttons and push boundaries, and horror and comedy are genres that do that. I guess, I hope, there's a quality in me that is vulnerable yet strong, which is a really funny thing to say about yourself. I am a huge crybaby, but I'm also really tough. I used to be a soccer player so I have an athletic background. It's a quality a lot of final girls have.
Evil Dead was your first starring role in a movie. I imagine that was a real trial by fire, in a debut, to have the opportunity to jam your hand into a chainsaw and cut a demon version of yourself in half.

Right? And get buried alive and cut my tongue in half and barf all over someone. Yeah, it should have been a miserable experience, right? It wasn't.

[Exclusive] Bruce Campbell Will Be Voicing Ash Williams in an Upcoming ‘Evil Dead’ Game!

From bloody-disgusting.com:

Earlier this year, in the wake of Starz cancelling “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” Bruce Campbell announced that he had officially retired from playing Ash Williams, and he has since remained firmly committed to that choice. But what about outside the realm of film and television? As he teased back in May, when asked if he’d be up for voicing Ash and/or doing the motion capture for a video game, “upcoming iterations” of the franchise are in the works.

That began speculation that a video game was in the works, and we can now confirm that the Evil Dead franchise will indeed be expanded upon with a new game… with Campbell as Ash!

Speaking with Bruce for a full interview that’s coming to BD very soon, our own Meagan Navarro just got the scoop.

Oh no no, that’s different,” Bruce replied, when Meagan asked about potential video games and if they apply to his vow to stay retired. “I have previous obligations I have to fulfill. They are doing a video game. A whole immersive kind of dealio. I’ll be Ash for that, because I wouldn’t want someone else’s voice hamming it up.”

For now, Campbell is remaining tight-lipped about the specifics, but his comments to Meagan seem to suggest something in the realm of virtual reality. Stay tuned for more.

Over the years, Campbell voiced Ash for multiple Evil Dead video games, including Evil Dead: Hail to the King, Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick and Evil Dead: Regeneration.

Bruce Campbell Talks Life After Ash And Much More In An Interview

Bruce Campbell, that’s a name every horror fan knows. The writer/actor/director/producer has been involved in so many iconic films and series. One of the jewels in his crown is The Evil Dead franchise in which he plays the unforgettable character Ashley “Ash” Williams.

His “Ash vs Evil Dead” series premiered back in 2015 on Starz, giving us three seasons of Ash, along with his deadite fighting sidekicks Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) and Pablo (Ray Santiago) as well as the sometimes evil Ruby (Lucy Lawless).

Fans were heartbroken to learn earlier this year that “Ash vs Evil Dead” wouldn’t return for a fourth season. Soon Bruce announced that Ash had been permanently retired, leaving fans to wonder what was next for the one of a kind, suave, badass.
