Dana DeLorenzo set for new beginning as 'Ash vs. Evil Dead' comes to an end

Breakout star to be honored Thursday in LA

While the news broke last week that the horror comedy "Ash vs. Evil Dead" is coming to an end after its third season on STARZ, it also marked a new beginning for the series' breakout star, Dana DeLorenzo. Not only has DeLorenzo's turn as Deadite slayer Kelly Maxwell earned her respect and loyalty from fans of the series, it, in a serendipitous bit of timing, has also brought her the prestigious Artemis Action Next Wave award from the Artemis Women in Action Film Festival.

[Editorial] Can the ‘Evil Dead’ Franchise Continue Without Bruce Campbell?

The biggest horror news of last week sadly paved way for the biggest horror news of this week, with this past Friday’s cancellation of “Ash vs. Evil Dead” leading to star Bruce Campbell officially hanging up the chainsaw-hand this week. According to Campbell, he’s done playing Ash Williams, setting his sights instead on other fish he wants to fry.

So where does that leave the Evil Dead franchise, to which Campbell is inextricably linked? Could it continue beyond Campbell, or does it die along with his retirement?

It’s Not Over… Yet: Watch the “Ash vs. Evil Dead” Series Finale Trailer!

John Squires writes:

We’ve spent so much time the past couple days mourning the cancellation of “Ash vs. Evil Dead” that it’s been easy to forget that it’s not actually over… not yet, at least.

We still have one more episode left to go, with the Season 3/series finale airing this Sunday on Starz. We’ve had the pleasure of previewing the finale and we can tell you that it’s pretty damn enjoyable and satisfying, delivering an epic final battle between Ash and a MASSIVE Kaiju Deadite, some nice emotion, and a final few minutes unlike anything we’ve ever seen in the Evil Dead universe. We think you’re gonna love it… and be left begging for more.

There Were Post-Apocalyptic Plans for “Ash vs. Evil Dead” Season 4 [Exclusive]

Brad Miska writes:

Although expected, it was hugely disappointing to learn that Starz canceled “Ash vs. Evil Dead”, which will conclude its third season this coming Sunday. Even so, Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert, and star Bruce Campbell had been developing a fourth season up until the official cancelation, sources tell Bloody Disgusting.

From what I’m told, if “Ash vs. Evil Dead” had been blessed with a fourth season, it would have taken Ashy Slashy to the future. Think sci-fi post-apocalyptic, like Mad Max meets Fallout, only with…robots!

The premium cabler has opted not to move forward with a Season 4 of Sam Raimi’s horror comedy starring Bruce Campbell, Lucy Lawless and Ray Santiago, and the Season 3 finale on April 29 will serve as the series ender.

“Ash v Evil Dead
has taken audiences on a wild ride for three seasons thanks to the fantastic performances and creative efforts of Sam, Bruce, Rob and the entire cast and crew. We are proud to send the show out with a bang…and a splat,” said Carmi Zlotnik, President of Programming for Starz.

Five years ago, blood rained down from the skies.

One of the straight up best horror movies of the last ten years, if you’re asking me, was Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead, which arrived in theaters on April 5, 2013. Yes, that means it’s been exactly five years since we returned to the infamous cabin in the woods for another night of grueling terror and practical effects insanity… time sure flies, eh?

In celebration of the remake’s fifth anniversary, Alvarez took to Twitter last night to share a batch of previously unreleased photos from the making of his goriest flick to date!

Oh yes, there will be blood…

ASH VS EVIL DEAD: Bruce Campbell talks Season 3 – exclusive interview

ASH VS EVIL DEAD, now in its third season on Starz Sunday nights, represents a very particular sort of career triumph for its star Bruce Campbell. By now, the origin story has gained folklore status: in 1979, Campbell and his friends, director Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert, then young men in Michigan, raised $350,000 to make a low-budget horror film, THE EVIL DEAD, which was released in 1981, starring Campbell as inadvertent demon-summoner Ash Williams. The trio went on to make EVIL DEAD II (1987) and its studio-sponsored follow-up ARMY OF DARKNESS. The friends also came together to make the TV series THE ADVENTURES OF BRISCO COUNTY JR. (1993-1994) and JACK OF ALL TRADES (2000), both starring Campbell. Additionally, Campbell played the recurring character of Autolycus on the Raimi/Tapert series HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS and XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS.

Campbell has a prolific career apart from the Raimi/Tapert team in film and television, with notable credits that include THE HUDSUCKER PROXY, ESCAPE FROM L.A., BUBBA HO-TEP (as Elvis Presley), MY NAME IS BRUCE (as a monster-beset version of himself), an a series regular role in seven seasons of BURN NOTICE as Sam Axe.

Through it all, though, Campbell (and Raimi and Tapert) kept getting asked at every public appearance, “When are you doing more EVIL DEAD?”

Despite Hollywood’s Declining Popularity, This Actor Has Lost Zero Fans

Squiggly Line Guy writes:

It was the night of October the 11th in 2017. It was a busy night, because I was flying to Japan with my family the next morning. Luck was on my side however, because Bruce Campbell was in Seattle promoting his new book Hail to the Chin. I made the time.

You may have looked at the cover photo and thought to yourself, “I know that guy from somewhere.” You may recognize Campbell from smaller cameo roles like from Darkman, Congo, or his different brief characters in all three of Sam Raimi‘s Spiderman movies. You may recognize him as Sam Axe from the hit USA show Burn Notice. You may know him from the Starz series Ash vs Evil Dead. Or you may have been one of his dedicated fans who was following him all along.

'Evil Dead' to FX's 'Legion': John Cameron's trip from Detroit to Hollywood

John Cameron, executive producer of FX's 'Legion.' (Photo: Byron J. Cohen/FX)

Excerpt:

Ever since his teen years in Oakland County, Cameron has been collaborating with talented people to produce cinematic miracles. He was one of the kids who hung out with future "Evil Dead" franchise and "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi to make elaborate amateur movies using a Super-8 camera.

Cameron and Bruce Campbell, who currently stars in "Ash vs. Evil Dead" for Starz, were students in the Wylie E. Groves High School class of 1976. Raimi was in the class of 1977.
