Sam Raimi's Darkman: 25th Anniversary Screening w/ Q&A from Dan Hicks

Info from www.o-cinema.org:

Popcorn Nights & O Cinema are proud to present the 25th Anniversary of Sam Raimi’s Darkman

Tuesday, February 24th (9pm)

**Live Skype Q&A with actor Dan Hicks (“Evil Dead II”, “Maniac Cop”, “Intruder”, “Darkman”)**

Two decades prior to Liam Neeson kicking ass on screen with his particular set of skills in the hugely successful “Taken” franchise, he teamed up with “Evil Dead” creator “Sam Raimi” in the cult classic “Darkman. This film proved that Raimi could break-out of the horror genre with success and also marks the first starring role for Neeson after supporting parts in films like “The Dead Pool”, “Next of Kin”, “Satisfaction”, and “Krull”. I have always loved darkman, thanks in no small part to Larry’s Drake’s sinister turn at villain Robert G. Durant. If you are in the mood for some 90’s awesomeness, make sure to join us for this special screening of DARKMAN

'Evil Dead' Alternate Ending And Extended Scenes Aired In The UK, Landed On YouTube

Jodi Clager writes:

When Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead was in production, there were many rumors that Ashley J. Williams would appear in the film in some capacity. The Chin himself, Bruce Campbell, dismissed the rumors. Alas, he wasn’t available at the time and the alternate scene, complete with groovy catchphrase, was never filmed.

There is, however, a previously unreleased ending on YouTube, thanks to an alternate cut of the movie that aired in the UK. A Bloody Disgusting reader found an IMDB thread about the extended version of Evil Dead and then BOOM. We’ve got more footage for a flick that I simply enjoyed the hell out of, much to my husband’s chagrin.

These clips are not safe for work or dinnertime. That’s what makes them awesome.

Evil Dead Anthology Review

In the annals of horror history, few films are as universally adored as Evil Dead (1981). A ragged, breathless, almost plotless adrenalin surge of a movie, it is about as pure a horror movie as you can get.

The set-up is that which launched a thousand imitators. Five college kids go to an abandoned cabin and, through playing a tape recorder of a vocal translation of the fabled Necronomicon, unleash an evil in the woods that possesses and kills them, one-by-one.

As simplistic as this is, the film really stands on pure energy and imagination. In particular, the frenetic and innovative camerawork of teenage director Sam Raimi. In time, he would become one of the biggest names in Hollywood, but the invention and will to entertain are already firmly in place in this, his first calling card.

Bruce Campbell Rocks Wizard World Comic Con with LAST FAN STANDING!

D.M. Anderson writes:

The good folks at Moviepilot were gracious enough to arrange for me to cover all three days of the Wizard World Comic Con in Portland, OR. I was honored, excited and nervous all at once, because even though I’ve been around a while (probably longer than most of you reading this), I’ve never actually attended a Comic Con before, never cosplayed or hung around those who do (although my youngest daughter, because of my long hair and beard, suggested I cosplay as Jesus).

Still, I was up for the challenge, and for the first day of the Con, since most of the celebrity Q&A panels were scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, I planned to mingle and see what was there, get some pix of some of the more impressive cosplayers and sit-in on a few of the events scheduled for the evening.

But, alas, I feel like I may have let Moviepilot down on this first night. Sure, I met some folks with awesome costumes, and was in awe of the vendor booths which filled the Oregon Convention Center (it’s truly movie-TV-comic-geek heaven). But then I got distracted like Dug the Dog spotting a squirrel when they announced Bruce Campbell’s new game show, Last Fan Standing, would be beginning in a few minutes.

Oh, hell yeah! I just had to cover this!

Featured Artwork: Ash Splash by Erik Johnson

Info:
Originally I was going to go for a more humorous set up involving Ash's possessed hand teaming up with Thing from The Addams Family, but instead I opted for a more rubbery representation of Bruce Campbell's face so that I could experiment with my new red paint pen and blend it with some grayscale markers to create a more realistic shade of blood.

In retrospect, if I was going to distort the face as much as did, a bright red poster paint blood probably would have worked better and come off as funnier.

Sketch ya' later!

Starz Gives Update on Ash Vs. Evil Dead - IGN

At the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour today, Starz head Chris Albrecht spoke a bit about the upcoming TV series Ash Vs. Evil Dead.

The series, reuniting executive producer/director Sam Raimi, executive producer Rob Tapert and executive producer/star Bruce Campbell, will have half hour long episodes, not an hour, which surprised some. Regarding how that came to be, Albrecht said, “The half hour idea was their idea. And I can tell you it’s a chock-full half hour.”

Bruce Campbell Searches For The ‘Last Fan Standing’

The cult favorite star of The Evil Dead will host a reality competition show on CONtv.

Earlier this week, Wizard World and Cinedigm announced plans to launch CONtv, a new digital channel geared towards fans of comic books, fantasy, horror and sci-fi. Today, CONtv announced one of its first original series that will begin filming tomorrow, January 10 at New Orleans Comic Con.

Comic Con regular, Bruce Campbell will host “Last Fan Standing,” a reality competition series that pits genre fans against each other at various Wizard World competitions around the country while competing for cash and other prizes. At the tapings, all fans are invited to participate before the field is narrowed to four fans vying for the title of “Last Fan Standing.”

Campbell is best known for starring in The Evil Dead and Army of Darkness films, in addition to his seven seasons on USA Network’s “Burn Notice.” Campbell recently signed on to reprise his role as Ash Williams in the upcoming STARZ TV series, “Ash vs. Evil Dead.” Campbell is also producing “Last Fan Standing” through his own production studio in association with Pop Quiz Entertainment.

Bruce Campbell brings Ash of ‘Evil Dead’ back to life at this weekend’s Comic Con

‘Evil Dead’ RISING

Bruce Campbell has 114 acting credits plus dozens of producer, director and writer credits. Despite his vast and varied film and TV work, Campbell’s starring role as Ashley J. “Ash” Williams in horror master Sam Raimi’s “Evil Dead” film trilogy dominates the many Comic Con appearances he makes throughout the country.

“They’ve been relentless,” the actor said of his “Evil Dead” fans.

In addition to Campbell’s Saturday and Sunday appearances at New Orleans Comic Con this weekend, dozens of horror, sci-fi and fantasy stars are appearing at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Celebrity guests include Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, from “The Vampire Diaries”; “The Walking Dead” cast members Norman Reedus, Michael Cudlitz, Scott Wilson and Sarah Wayne Callies; Michael Rooker, from “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “The Walking Dead”; and Evan Peters, from “American Horror Story” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

Campbell’s latest New Orleans Comic Con appearance follows the November announcement that he’s reprising his “Evil Dead” role as Ash in an upcoming Starz cable series. Production for the 10-episode “Ash vs. Evil Dead” begins in New Zealand in the spring.

“You’ve got to listen to your fan base,” Campbell said recently during a telephone interview. “That’s part of the reason why we’re doing it, to give people what they want.”

The creative freedom allowed by premium cable is another reason for Campbell’s extended “Evil Dead” return.

“We don’t have the restrictions of generic cable or broadcast,” he said. “We can give it to the fans how they want it.”

The “Evil Dead” series also will give Ash — previously seen in 1981’s “The Evil Dead,” 1987’s “Evil Dead II” and 1992’s “Army of Darkness” — room to grow.

“That’s the beauty of it,” Campbell said. “You can take this character, who’s only really been in three movies, and go crazy with him. And returning to Ash as a crabby middle-aged man, that appeals to me.”

“Evil Dead” creator Raimi will direct the first “Ash vs. Evil Dead” episode. “That will set the tone for the rest of the season,” Campbell said.

Prairie Nerds: 'Evil Dead' star Bruce Campbell slated for Wizard World Tulsa

The 2015 Wizard World pop culture convention tour (coming to Tulsa in October) kicks off this weekend in New Orleans.

And, in case you missed it (Tulsa World columnist Ginnie Graham mentioned this in a top-things-to-look-forward-to-in-2015 story), the first celebrity guest has been announced for Wizard World Tulsa.

Actor Bruce Campbell has enlisted for 2015 Wizard World tour stops, including the one scheduled Oct. 23-25 at Cox Business Center.

Campbell is perhaps best known for his handiwork in the “Evil Dead” trilogy, but he’s trekked all over the pop culture universe on his way to a current gig in “Burn Notice” on the USA Network.

Blood, Guts, and Beer: What to drink with...'The Evil Dead'

As many horror fans know, craft beer and horror go hand-in-bloody-hand. Just check out some of these labels the next time you are in a store that sells craft beer and it's obvious their love of horror. And with certain sensibilities come certain tastes. All of the incredible beer available these days lends itself to perfect pairings with food and, in our case, with movies. Everyone visiting this site has seen the Evil Dead movies. Below are some selected beers I am sure Ash himself would enjoy. Cheers.
