Recently we were hit with the news that director Fede Alvarez might have found his new film with the currently untitled flick dubbed “The Shining in the White House.” And while that sounds like ten types of fun, I think I’d much rather see Alvarez considering Evil Dead 2 his next film.
Especially considering Bruce Campbell says he’s producing the next Evil Dead movie.
On top of all of that, I’m a big fan of the idea of a female taking over the recently vacated role of “Ash” in the future Evil Dead films – and Jane Levy’s Mia from Alvarez’s remake is more than up to the task to say the very least. In fact, as we learned in Alvarez’s Don’t Breathe Levy kicks all the ass and I don’t know a single horror fan that would lament her return.
With all of this in mind, I can’t help but imagine what a sequel to Alvarez’s Evil Dead might look like. So join us as we dig into what we think might make for a killer follow-up to one of the best remakes out there. Here’s how we think Evil Dead Part II could work.

Graham Humphreys’ career as a poster artist looms large over horror cinema. From designing the iconic Evil Dead poster to Nightmare on Elm Street and House of a Thousand Corpses, his work is familiar to film audiences around the world. It’s easy to see why his work grabs the attention of horror fans and filmmakers alike, as he continually and systematically sets the bar ever higher in his quest for sheer terror and pure entertainment. With over forty years of experience, he is one of the few contemporary illustrators using the traditional medium of gouache to paint his images.
Graham Humphreys is an illustrator and visual artist best known for producing film posters. During the 1980s, Humphreys worked with Palace Pictures, producing publicity material for such films as Dream Demon, Basket Case, The Evil Dead, and Nightmare on Elm Street. Whilst most artists now work digitally, Graham remains dedicated to the medium that has supported him throughout his career: paint on paper. His current projects include vinyl LP sleeves, posters, private commissions and work for horror film festivals.

NECA has announced its next three Toony Terror figures. The ongoing collectible toy line, which was introduced earlier this year and puts a Scooby-Doo-like twist on your favorite horror icons will soon include Ash from The Evil Dead franchise, the Nun from The Conjuring franchise, and the OG black and white vampire Count Orlok from Nosferatu.
One Ash Williams is a handful, but what happens when our hero is splintered into multiple versions of himself? In Death to the Army of Darkness #1, writer Ryan Parrott (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Batman: Gates of Gotham) offers up a comedy-horror epic with artist Jacob Edgar (Savage Tales: Red Sonja) starring clones of the over-the-top Ash. Rounding out the creative team is colorist Kike J. Diaz(Sherlock Frankenstein, Ether) and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou(Red Sonja, Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt).
The new series begins just after the legendary Army of Darkness film, and a bad translation of the Necronomicon is of course to blame for the antics. Versions of Ash include his feminine side Ashley Williams, the erratic Lil’ Ash, Dash aka Doggie Ash, the cynical and morose Skeleton Ash, and Chainy—Ash’s now sentient chainsaw! Their mission is to travel through time to Ancient Egypt and prevent the Necronomicon from ever being written in the first place.
Thriller! Chiller! & ASIFA Central to host Michigander + Evil Dead film series makeup, props, and SFX artist TOM SULLIVAN (with EVIL DEAD film screening), Saturday, October 12th 2019. Sullivan gave a lecture with Q&A about his work.
Fede Alvarez, the writer and director behind Sony’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web starring Claire Foy, and his writing partner Rodolfo Sayagues have closed an overall deal with Legendary Pictures. Under the pact, Alvarez and Sayagues will create, develop and produce films through their Bad Hombre Films banner staring with the Washington, D.C.-based horror film written by Joe Epstein, which Alvarez will direct.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the pic is described as The Shining set in the White House. Bad Hombre is also set to produce a reboot of the 1974 cult classic, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which will be penned by Chris Thomas Devlin.
In addition, Shintaro Shimosawa, who served as a co-producer on 2004’s The Grudge and The Grudge 2, has been hired as Bad Hombre’s Head of Production.
Past projects from the duo include scripting Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe, both of which were directed by Alvarez. The former went on to gross $100m worldwide, while Don’t Breathe has a global cum of $157 million.

Aficionados of horror memorabilia and high-quality, screen-accurate replicas have known about Mark Phillips and Nightmares Unlimited for years now. From chrome Phantasm spheres to Freddy Krueger gloves and Re-Animator syringes, Phillips has created some stunning works and imaginative mash-ups which we’ve featured here in the past.

“The concept came from a friend/client of mine who is a huge fan of the Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash comic series” Phillips explains. “He wanted to know what it would look like if the Necronomicon took over Freddy’s glove.
Nik Powell, the respected UK producer, businessman and former director of the National Film and Television School (NFTS), has died at the age of 69.
A statement published on the NFTS’ website sad that Powell had been receiving treatment for cancer and died this morning (Nov 7) in Oxford surrounded by his family.
Powell was the co-founder of UK video label and production outfit Palace Pictures in 1982 with Stephen Woolley. Through the company, the pair released movies including The Evil Dead, and produced features including a trio of pics with director Neil Jordan: the Oscar-winning 1992 feature The Crying Game with Forest Whitaker and Miranda Richardson, the Oscar-nominated 1986 film Mona Lisa with Bob Hoskins and Cathy Tyson, and 1984 fantasy drama The Company Of Wolves with Angela Lansbury.
While the crowds gathered outside Luna Park for their Spooktober night of fun, the real Halloween party was happening next door at the Palais Theatre as the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra took to the stage to perform one of the biggest cult horror films ever, The Evil Dead.
For the uninitiated, Sam Raimi’s classic 1981 film tells the story of five college students who head to a cabin in the woods for a weekend away. In the cellar, they find the Necronomicon Ex Mortis (roughly translated, The Book of The Dead) and unleash a hellish string of demonic forces upon themselves and the surrounding woods. Filled with Raimi’s trademark visual style and slapstick humour, it’s the perfect gory Halloween film to be watched with a group of friends on the couch or with a crowd of fans in a massive St Kilda theatre.
Providing an extra treat for fans, conductor Brett Kelly and the talented musicians from the MSO were joined on stage by the film’s original composer, Joe LoDuca, who joined the company on keyboard and guitar. Introducing the film, LoDuca explained how he first got involved with Raimi, producer Rob Tapert and star Bruce Campbell as a student in Michigan in the early ’80s, before breaking down what was in store for the evening. Having nearly 100 credits to his name, LoDuca has returned to his first film score and reimagined it to make it bigger and better.
From the second the film began, the audience was on board. Spontaneous bouts of laughter and cheering erupted from every axe swing and bad line reading. Even the orchestra members were getting into the spirit of it, watching the screen with big smiles on their faces while Ash frantically hacks away at his possessed friends.
Back in September, The Mystic Museum in Burbank, CA opened the very first exhibit showcasing original props from Sam Raimi's classic The Evil Dead. This immersive experience features photo ops, tribute art and more, and later this month, fans will be able to enjoy the exhibit and meet much of the film's original cast members during a special signing event! Groovy, right?
On November 23rd, Evil Dead fans will be able to meet and greet Ellen Sandweiss (Cheryl), Theresa Tilly (Shelly), Betsy Baker (Linda), and Hal Delrich (Scott).
