Screen Gems Picks Up Bride Horror Thriller With Sam Raimi Producing (Exclusive)

Blair Butler, who wrote 'Hell Fest,' will write the script, which will also be produced by Emile Gladstone and Robert Tapert.

This bride won’t be wearing white.

Screen Gems has picked up an untitled horror pitch centering on a bride, with Blair Butler, the writer behind Hell Fest, on board to pen the script.

Emile Gladstone, one of the producers behind the upcoming horror thriller The Curse of La Llorona, will produce the project along with Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert, the horror vets whose Ghost House Pictures banner counts Don’t Breathe, Drag Me to Hell and Evil Dead among its credits.

Plot details are being kept under a veil of secrecy, but the project is known to be a supernatural thriller that tells of a young woman who is invited to a lavish destination wedding, unaware of the horrors that await.

Butler is a rare female voice in the horror sphere who rose through the ranks on such geek fare as Attack of the Show! She wrote Hell Fest, CBS Films’ 2018 slasher movie set in an amusement park, and also wrote Polaroid, a thriller featuring a vintage Polaroid camera with a deadly secret.

Butler is currently in development with Bad Robot and Paramount on The Steps, which is described as a twist on the possession genre. Stefan Grube, who had previously served as an editor on the Bad Robot sci-fi thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane, is attached to direct.

Butler is repped by ICM Partners, Industry Entertainment and Lichter Grossman.
