Everything Peter Feeney does is in a rush, he says so himself.
It's probably why he's so direct. While most would idle with small talk, 10 seconds into meeting him, he's offering an in-depth analysis of the state of the acting industry for New Zealand thespians. If anyone would know, it's him: he's been an actor, director, writer, journalist and acting tutor for more than 20 years. He's worked on everything from Shortland Street and the early days of Xena, to Black Sheep, 30 Days of Night, Spartacus and more recently, Ash vs Evil Dead.
He's just finished work on the Evil Dead revival Ash vs Evil Dead currently being made here in New Zealand, and when the topic comes up, he excitedly pulls out his phone to share pictures.
His 8-year-old son Arlo is on set as we speak, playing one of the infamous deadites – the bad guys of the franchise. "I had such good fun out there, I can't even tell you," he says, scrolling through photos and shaking his head with a nostalgic, "good times, mate. I'll tell ya".
