Bruce Campbell is set to return to TV screens this fall as the star of Ash vs Evil Dead. But EW can exclusively reveal that Campbell is also set to bring back another of his fan-favorite events with a second season of the convention-set game show he hosts, Last Fan Standing. And he’ll be doing it by launching a Kickstarter campaign to help fund it.
Last Fan Standing is a trivia tournament that is played by fans at Wizard World conventions. (The first season aired online at CONtv.) “It’s a trivia game just for fans where they can walk in right off the floor,” Campbell tells EW. “They get a clicker, we hit them with a preliminary round, and we take the four best people in that room. Nobody has any special skills. They get up there in whatever shlubby outfit or costume they’re wearing. We tried it in two different cities where we shot the first 10 episodes. Now we’re going to the masses. I’ve never done this before. I’ve never crowd-funded, so it’s a little nerve-wracking because you’re like, ‘Jeez, is anyone gonna give a rat’s ass about this?’”
What does Campbell need the money for in putting together season 2? “What we mostly want to do is just upgrade everything a little bit so it looks a little more like an official game show,” says the host. “We want to go to different cities to do this because it would be great to have regionals and quarterfinals and semifinals — the whole bit. So basically you could have the king or queen nerd of the United States. And the world! It could keep going. It’s just tailored for fans. It’s all sci-fi, horror, fantasy gameplay.”
