AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND - Bound in human flesh, written in blood and carrying the curse of the ages — and it’s not Donald Trump’s latest best-seller.
Yes, Ash (Bruce Campbell) is back and he’s reading again from the Book of the Dead. No good can comes from that.
The Daily News had a chance to hold and pore over the new `Necronomicon’ on set as Starz was shooting the seventh of the 10-episode “Ash vs. Evil Dead” series, debuting later this year.
“It is based on a flayed, cut-off face,” Roger Murray, prosthetics designer, says.
He turns the book over to reveal the stitching adhering the face to the book and creeping up its binding.
The book at the heart of the show heralds back to the original 1981 cult horror film directed by Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell.
It spawned two sequels, “Evil Dead II” and “Army of Darkness” and follows the twisted and silly tale of Ash, who is forced to frequently face off with “Deadites” — evil spirits that possess the living and are usually destroyed via gory decapatations and gruesome dismemberments.
