Bruce Campbell still fighting “Evil Dead” — on TV this time

Bruce Campbell has never been busier than he is right now.

The popular indie-actor and Royal Oak native will soon reprise his most famous movie role, Ash Williams, in an “Evil Dead” TV series, it was announced recently. Campbell, 56, couldn’t say too much about it, however, and not because he was dodging the question.

“There’s very little to tell. It’s in the early development stages,” says Campbell, a graduate of Groves High School in Birmingham. “I’ve agreed to be in it. Beyond that, there’s absolutely nothing to tell. There’s no start date. It’s just something we’ve finally agreed to do.”

Campbell’s long-time collaborator and high school friend Sam Raimi — creator of “Evil Dead” and director of the Tobey Maguire “Spider-Man” trilogy, among other hit movies — is involved in the TV series.

“Working with Sam is what it’s all about,” Campbell says. “He’s an insane, creative director and that’s what I look for. The idea of doing a TV show came up, we talked about it, and he said, ‘The fans might like this.’ If Sam didn’t give this series his blessing, it would’ve been a harder sell for ‘Evil Dead’ fans.”
