31 Days-The ultimate Halloween film list: Day three-The Evil Dead

Erik Yates writes:
When the film came out, it was a critical and commercial success making over $11 million dollars in the U.S. and Worldwide. It was hailed by horror writer Stephen King as "The ultimate experience in grueling terror" and grueling it was. It was so intense that it was given an X rating in the U.K. and was banned for video release. It didn't stop the success of the film, and the soaring of Bruce Campbell as a cult icon. The film went on to spawn two sequels, a musical and countless video games with the only returning character being Campbell's Ash.

Personally this film was another on the "F-ed me up list" as I was a Boy Scout when I saw the film one stormy night on VHS. The tree rape alone was enough for me to not want to venture into camping again, but to see demons coming out of the ground, I was done and turned in my uniform shortly after. The only good to come from this film is the knowledge that you can dismember demons with a chainsaw with relative ease!
