What you'll learn in the course of playing the games is that Dr. West has an unholy alliance with netherworld creatures from a dimension called the Abyss. His experiments in conjunction with the Abyss demons have created the corrupted demons, zombies and human monstrosities Rick faces up against.

FEARnet: Exclusive Interview: Greg Nicotero & His 'Walking Dead'

Jeff Otto writes:
Greg Nicotero is no stranger to bloodshed. In fact, he’s the man behind the blood, happily splattering red while crafting some of the best makeup and prosthetic work of the past two decades. A Pittsburgh native, Nicotero cut his teeth in the business alongside Tom Savini on Day of the Dead before later returning to work with Romero on Land of the Dead and Diary of the Dead.

Although the bulk of Nicotero’s impressive resume - boasting names like Tarantino, Rodriguez and Raimi - leans towards genre material, he found a kindred spirit on the unlikely Green Mile. “Frank [Darabont] made a joke about when Tom Hanks’ wife is sick and said, ‘She should look like a heinous horror hag,’” Nicotero told FEARnet during our exclusive interview. “He’s literally quoting Sam Raimi and I got it.” When Darabont got the green light to adapt Robert Kirkman’s long-running zombie comic The Walking Dead for AMC, it was only natural that the director call upon his old friend to bring the zombies back to life.

Sam Raimi chooses his next projects - Den of Geek

As well as Oz, The Great and the Powerful, Sam Raimi has now signed up to helm Earp: Saints For Sinners too…

Ever since he left Spider-Man 4, there's been much speculation about which movie Sam Raimi would move on to direct instead. He's taken his time in choosing, having been strongly linked with the planned World Of Warcraft film over the past few months, but Raimi has now made his choices.

First up, he's down to helm Oz, The Great And The Powerful, which we found out about earlier this year. This is the Disney movie that's being billed as a pseudo-prequel to The Wizard Of Oz, and production on that is going to come first.

However, it seems that Raimi has chosen his project after that, too. For The Hollywood Reporter is saying that he's signed on the dotted line to direct Earp: Saints For Sinners, a comic book adaptation that takes the guts of the Wyatt Earp story and moves it into the future. Thus, Earp will be fighting outlaws, with the only town left of note being Las Vegas.

The full details of the project are to be unveiled at Comic-Con later this week.

For now, here's the story at The Hollywood Reporter.

Dave Hill: "The Evil Dead" in Review: A Review of "The Evil Dead"

Dave Hill writes:
As is often the case with films in which a lot of people end up dying and/or taking their tops off, "The Evil Dead" starts out with five attractive young people driving out into the woods in search of good times and also hopefully intercourse. Along the way, their car breaks down even though the one guy swears he just had it fixed. Lucky for them, there is an abandoned cabin right by where their car stopped working, so they just go inside and start drinking a bunch in hopes that this will lead to intercourse.

More eBay: Fangoria # 23 Evil Dead Cover Very Scarce and Evil Dead 2 Dead by Dawn Laserdisc

Fangoria # 23 (November 1982). Usual news and reviews on all things horror with features on Halloween 3, The Evil Dead, Tobe Hooper (Chainsaw Massacre), Edwin Neal (Chainsaw Massacre), Little Shop of Horrors, John Hough (Incubus) and much, much more.

A warehouse fire in December 2007 destroyed all the back issues of Fangoria so the only remaining copies are now in the hands of collectors, private individuals and a few dealers. Horror is big business so as well as providing lots of entertainment these magazines, if you look after them, have excellent long term investment potential.

Prior to the fire Starlog were already out of stock of this issue implying it is rare indeed (forget the word implying - this one really is SCARCE!).

Once I started to work my way through Jeff’s portfolio, I came across another beauty and this one spoke right to my demented, Evil Dead loving heart. A tattoo of Ash, the main character from the cult classic Evil Dead film series, wielding his chainsaw for a hand while grinning maniacally. As if that wasn’t perfect enough, the caption that Ensminger had written below the photo of the tattoo was “If you don’t know what this is…then I don’t want to know who you are.”

Sam Raimi’s OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL to Begin Principal Photography Next Summer?

Matt Goldberg writes:
Here’s an odd story: Sam Raimi’s Oz, The Great and Powerful starring Robert Downey Jr., is apparently set to begin filming in June 2011. At least that’s what Production Weekly is tweeting (for those who don’t know, they’re a reputable source). The reason this news is odd is because it looked like Raimi was moving forward on his other project: an adaptation of the popular online video game World of Warcraft. It looked like that because that’s what Raimi told Steve at the Saturn Awards last month. Not only that, Raimi seemed really excited for WoW, and wasn’t even sure if he was going to do Oz, let alone make it his first project.

The tenth annual Trash Film Orgy opens with “Evil Dead 2” and 300 zombie fans

Chelsey Miller
writes:
The 10th annual Trash Film Orgy opened Saturday night with 300 zombie fans coming out to see “Evil Dead 2” – the premiere night for the film festival celebrating gore-filled, sleazy, cult classic movies.

Saturday’s screening of Sam Raimi’s low-budget hit “Evil Dead 2” coincided with Sacramento’s downtown Zombie Walk, so there was no shortage of “dead” or evil characters dressed up as zombies in order to get into the spirit.

“I think it’s really a fun crowd, and I can tell there’s a lot of zombies left over from the Zombie Walk, which is really exciting,” said Trash Film Orgy representative Amy. “Evil Dead 2 is really a trash classic, and we have a really fun crowd tonight.”

The raunchiest segment of the entire evening was the “re-enactment” of “Evil Dead,” the prequel to “Evil Dead 2.” Two actors representing the film’s main characters, Ash and his girlfriend, took the stage and performed a humorous skit to recap the first movie that included the scene where Ash’s girlfriend is raped by a possessed tree.

BUBBA HO-TEP UK Blu-ray Review

James Dennis
writes:
Don Coscarelli's sublimely entertaining Bubba Ho-Tep hits UK Blu-ray this week, so what better time to revisit this remarkable film. The astonishing thing back in 2004 was quite how poignant and affecting Bruce Campbell's take on a nursing home confined Elvis turned out to be. Sure, Coscarelli is a pretty safe pair of hands for b-movie entertainment (most notably with the Phantasm series) and Campbell is the epitome of cult hero, but the pathos and humour they embued the story with took me totally by surprise.
