'Ash vs. Evil Dead' coming to Universal's Halloween Horror Nights this fall

Have you seen a guy with a chainsaw hand? Well, now's your chance.

Today, Universal Studios announced that the Starz show Ash vs. Evil Dead will get its own house at this year's Halloween Horror Nights 27.

Ash vs Evil Dead is the third house to be announced for this year's HHN, following The Shining and American Horror Story.

According Universal, guests can prepare for lots of carnage, gore and comedy as they're faced with iconic scenes from seasons 1 and 2.

While passing through the cabin in the woods and the morgue, guests will have to outrun demons and deadites (those unfortunate enough to be possessed by demons).

This year's HHN will run from Friday, Sept. 15 through Saturday, Nov. 4.

Cinema in the Cemetery Presents: Army of Darkness

Every summer, outdoor movie screenings are held all across the city (weather permitting). So when it comes to screening one of the most beloved—and hilarious—entries in the horror genre, why not do it at a cemetery?

As part of its Cinema in the Cemetery series of outdoor events with he Philadelphia Film Society, Laurel Hill Cemetery in Fairmount Park will treat audiences to a nighttime screening of Army of Darkness, the third installment in Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead trilogy that stars the one and only Bruce Campbell. With free parking nearby, refreshments available for purchase by The Chilly Banana, and an introduction by Travis Trew of the Philadelphia Film Society, this is a can’t-miss screening! Be mindful that Army of Darkness, like its two predecessors, is rated R and thus not suitable for children. Additionally, patrons are asked to bring their own blankets, beach chairs, and other personal seating so as to maximize their comfort as the movie plays amid the gravestones of the historic cemetery.

If you cannot make the July 28 (July 29 rain date) screening of Army of Darkness, do not despair. Cinema in the Cemetery will return on August 18 with the 1959 classic horror film House on Haunted Hill and again on September 8 with the cult 1970s film Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things (which is preceded by a special introduction by Dead Milkmen member Rodney Anonymous).

Cinema in the Cemetery Presents: Army of Darkness
9:00 p.m., Friday, July 28 (Rain date: July 29)
@ Laurel Hill Cemetery, 3822 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia
Tickets $10, advance purchase is suggested

4 Lessons Ash from Evil Dead Can Teach You about Being a Man

Ashley “Ash” Williams - protagonist and unfazed badass of the movie Evil Dead - is the ultimate cult hero. Armed with a shotgun, one button-up shirt, and a pair of eyebrows that gives Anthony Davis a run for his money, Ash is the unstoppable force and the immovable object that triumphs over the Claymation horror that is the 1980s’ undead.

Ash is a real hero, and teaches the audience what it is to be a man in the face of danger. He shows the world that it’s all right to let them see you sweat, as long as you’re strong, tenacious, flirtatious, and have cojones to cut off your own hand and replace it with a friggin’ chainsaw. So killer.

Kotobukiya Previews “Sexy Ash Williams” Statue at #SDCC

And yet, still not as sexy as Bruce Campbell.

The last few years, Japanese company Kotobukiya has brought a handful of iconic horror characters into their line of “Bishoujo” (which translates to “beautiful girl”) statues. Yes, they’ve been turning male horror icons into sexy females, kicking off the line with Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and even Chucky.

Chucky’s bride Tiffany is also in the mix, though that makes a bit more sense.

At Comic-Con, Kotobukiya just revealed that Ash Williams is next up in the Bishoujo line, with the sexy female version of the chainsaw-handed deadite slayer based on sequel Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn. For now, all we have is concept art to look at, which teases a female Ash in a torn up work shirt and brown daisy duke shorts.

Ash Has a Daughter in Season 3 of ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead’

The one thing that can always be said of Bruce Campbell is that he dedicates himself to every role. And, he’s such a naturally interesting and colorful character, he typically leads his onscreen personas to sacred territory, where the truly magnetic lurk. So, it’s no surprise that “Groovy” Bruce is gushing on season three of the awesome Ash vs. Evil Dead.

According to Campbell, who spoke with the media at the 43rd Annual Saturn Awards, Ash is going to learn that he’s got a daughter in the upcoming season, and things are going to get crazy, likely with another major villain in the mix (we theorize).
