If there's one thing that "Ash vs Evil Dead" has never really done, it is bring down the apocalypse. At least not in global sized proportions. That may change after the season one finale.
Evil Dead fans weren’t sure if writer/director Sam Raimi and actor Bruce Campbell would ever do anything else with the franchise after Army of Darkness in 1992. There was always talk, but this resulted in a mildly successful remake in 2013 and scattered news bits about a possible fourth entry to the original series. These ultimately came to nothing, because Raimi, Campbell and the original players still involved decided to make Ash vs. Evil Dead for television instead.
Since its premiere on Halloween 2015, the series has succeeded in satisfying old fans and rounding up new ones for the continuing adventures of Ashley “Ash” J. Williams. This pleases Campbell, who’s been attached to the character and the property for almost 35 years. In a sense, Campbell is Ash, which led to a sometimes testy, but always enjoyable conversation with Uproxx about the Evil Dead films, the show’s popularity and everyone’s plans for the second season.
It’s always nice to see horror icons getting work outside the genre, and we can’t help but smile when we spot them on our televisions. You’ve surely by now seen Geico’s latest commercial, which centers on Peter Pan’s visit to his high school reunion, but you may not have noticed the coolest aspect of it.
The gist of the commercial, essentially, is that Peter Pan is an asshole, and since he never ages like everyone else, he goes on an epic trolling spree at the reunion. At one point he approaches a former classmate by the name of Joann, and proceeds to tell her that she doesn’t “look a day over 70.” What a jerk.
In the highly anticipated season finale of ASH VS EVIL DEAD, Ash is given a choice… will he fight for good or take the easy way out?
Time to get revved horror fans – everyone’s favorite chainsaw-wielding hero is here! From Sam Raimi’s 1987 sequel, Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn, Sideshow is proud to introduce the Ash Williams Sixth Scale Figure.
Capturing all that is awesome about Bruce Campbell as the cult classic icon, Ash Williams returns to the remote cabin in the woods where he must hack and slash his way through the hordes of relentlessly deranged Deadites that want him dead by dawn.
In the season finale, Ash will be offered a deal that could change him and mankind forever in a monumental last-ditch attempt to rid the world of the Evil.

The first season of Ash vs Evil Dead is almost over. Come Saturday, Jan. 2 at 9:31 p.m. ET, the season finale (“The Dark One”) will be over — leaving fans of the popular Starz show without a proper fix until the already-ordered second season from creator Sam Raimi debuts sometime in late 2016. To prepare for the occasion, the network will marathon the other nine episodes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of end-of-the-week New Year’s Eve festivities and Saturday’s finale.
Each night, three back-to-back episodes will air beginning at 9 p.m. ET. This means the pilot, “Bait,” and “Books From Beyond” take up the largest chunk of time with two hours on Monday, Dec. 28, as the first episode clocks in at just over 40 minutes in length. Add the second and third episodes’ 27-minute run times and commercials, and BAM — two hours of groovy, deadite-killing programming.
While many shows go on hiatus around the holidays, Ash vs Evil Dead proved there’s no rest for the wicked with “Bound in the Flesh,” its penultimate episode. Between all the freaky moments, delicious zingers (from two Ashes), and a huge reveal we’ve been waiting for all season—this one was a doozy.
The end is near for the first season of Starz’s top-notch continuation of the Evil Dead films, and you can tell things are going to hell fast for humanity by the amount of Ashes on screen.
“We’re going to do everything we can to make people go ‘Holy sh-t!’ over and over again,” promises Bruce Campbell, noting that one of the impending twists includes his possessed severed hand deciding to grow itself into the demon hunter’s doppelgänger. “Just when we thought it wouldn’t plague him again, well hello buddy! It’s a fun escalation of horror.”
And that's just the beginning of the bloody mayhem! In this exclusive clip from Saturday’s episode, Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) are confronted with double the trouble, and they must figure out which one is the real deal. Of course, it’s not always easy to tell a demon from a dimwitted bigot, and considering that the whole thing is going down in the last place Ash ever expected only makes matters more monstrous.
Merry early Christmas, Ash vs Evil Dead fans! In this delightful clip from episode nine, “Bound in the Flesh,” Ash, Kelly, and Pablo take a quick porch meeting to strategize. At stake: protecting the fates of those apple-cheeked young backpackers, who’re otherwise destined for the “night train to Kill-a-delphia.”
We’re giving Evil Dead: Dead by Dawn fans a chance to win an Exclusive Ash Sixth Scale Figure. Enter today!
Ash vs. Evil Dead will be having a marathon all next week on Starz's before the Jan. 2 airing the season finale.
Listen up, you primitive screwheads. I’ve got news for you: you ain’t watching anything but Christmas Story and Ash vs. Evil Dead before New Year’s Eve… and after the 25th, Christmas Story’s left town.
So settle down, grab your favorite chainsaw hand, and get ready to catch up on four and a half hours (that’s nine 30-minute episodes) of Bruce Campbell’s glorious chin. Beginning on Monday, Dec. 28 next week, Starz will be giving a daily three-episode fix of Deadites and decapitations all while leading up to the Ash vs. Evil Dead season finale on Saturday, Jan. 2.
That’s right, like an old beat-up Oldsmobile, Ash will be limping onto small screens with the first three episodes starting at 9pm ET/PT on Starz. The next day (Tuesday, Dec. 29), fans will get the fourth, fifth, and sixth episodes. And then on Wednesday, Dec. 30, the final three episodes will air starting at 9pm, all before the finale on Saturday.
Is that groovy enough for you? Just remember to get an axe before turning the TV on.
In Episode 109, Ash finds himself in a battle with his greatest nemesis, and Kelly and Pablo have to decide who to trust.

Huge props to io9 readers Johnny Larocque and Nicole Cooper, who crafted this adorably spooky yet undeniably festive gingerbread house inspired by the TV show Ash vs Evil Dead and the Evil Dead movies. Ash vs Gingerdead?
For the new Starz series, Ash vs. Evil Dead, production designer Nick Bassett was charged with conceptualizing and executing the look of the show, shooting in New Zealand. “It is an odd world,” he stated of the series, a ‘sequel’ to the popular trilogy of Evil Dead films. “I got invited by [producer] Rob Tapert. I’d done quite a few shows with Rob before. Next, I talked to Sam [Raimi], the main creative drive on the first episode. We talked as a group together with Sam.”
With an introduction from afar, with Bassett located in New Zealand, and Raimi and Tapert at the Los Angeles headquarters of their Renaissance Pictures production company, the group first discussed the artistic ideas in broad terms, gradually getting more specific, with Bassett first reviewing all the original films. After Bassett read the pilot script, a question befell him which all production designers ponder at the outset of a new project, big or small. “How the hell are we going to do that?’” recollected Bassett, knowing he needed to invent a way to approach the show and present his vision back to Raimi and Tapert months before production. “We got an introduction, went off and did our own thing, then regrouped. It gave us time to think about it on our own. Sam has a spirit to him and style of working that’s collaborative. You get what he means without having to spell it out.”
Are two Bruce Campbells better than one? You bet your sweet Ash!
“I am so excited about the last episodes of the season,” says the actor, who faces off with himself in the horror-com’s penultimate outing on December 26 after his demon hunter’s severed hand suddenly sprouts into a whole other Ash.
“Obviously, some really bad s--t is going to happen. It’s a horror series!” Campbell says with a laugh. “I’d bet one of them is not a good guy.” And we bet we’ll see him again, since Starz has already renewed As vs. Evil Dead for a second season.

Oh, Ray! Everything about you puts a smile on my face! Let's light up the readers' faces with your fantastic interview answers!
Mary Whitehouse would be scratching her way out of the grave if she knew she’d helped the movie she branded “the number one video nasty” have a long and healthy lifespan. In 1983, Whitehouse, founder of the National Viewers’ and Listeners’ Association, demanded members of the House of Commons squirm their way through scenes of decapitation, dismemberment and tree-rape culled from Sam Raimi’s micro-budget splatter classic, The Evil Dead, in an attempt to force the government to clamp down on the then-burgeoning video-rental industry. Soon after, police confiscated mainstays of the VHS horror shelf such as The Driller Killer, I Spit On Your Grave and Cannibal Holocaust from the nation’s shops, with The Evil Dead considered the most notorious corrupter of young minds. The hysteria continued all the way until a test trial in July 1984 when a Crown Court judge screened the film and failed to find it obscene.
The publicity sent it to number one,” recalls Bruce Campbell, who plays The Evil Dead’s signature role, Ashley “Ash” J Williams. “It was the biggest video of the year. The Shining was way down the list. Everyone wanted to see what this video nasty was once we’d won the court case.”
The episode airs Saturday, December 19th at 9:00 PM ET/PT on STARZ.
In Episode 108, Ash attempts to end the Evil, but first he must contend with other, more physical nightmares from his past. Fisher faces a horrific change in Ash.

At 57, actor Bruce Campbell is reprising his role from the “Evil Dead” films. This time it’s for the Starz television network’s “Ash vs. Evil Dead.” He also plays Sam Axe on USA network’s “Burn Notice.” Mr. Campbell is the father of four children from two marriages and best-selling author of “If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor.”
It's gun-nut mayhem for Ash and company in a sharp, satirical (and bloody as hell) episode
"Life is hard and dangerous, and sometimes you just gotta chop off somebody's head to survive." Wait, since when did Ash vs. Evil Dead become The Walking Dead? We kid, of course. Unlike the smash-hit zombie series, Starz's resurrection of the beloved splatstick franchise is neither pretentious nor nihilistic enough to serve up that line of dialogue with a straight face. While TWD doles out its sadistic, kill-or-be-killed valorization of violence in all misguided seriousness, tonight's Ash episode — "Fire in the Hole" — treats it like the joke that it is. In this go-round, Ash J. Williams and his merry band come across a militia full of Rick Grimes–style might-makes-right gun fetishists, and promptly pull their asses out of the fire.
Is romance on the horizon for horror’s most lovable half-wit? Show runner Greg DiGregorio weighs in on Ash and Bruce Campbell's charm.
Team Ghost Beaters has assembled on Ash vs. Evil Dead, however, Ash (Bruce Campbell) and his friends are about to face some very well-armed Deadites in this week’s new episode. And we’ve got your exclusive first look!
Naturally, this contains spoilers for the series if you’re not all caught up. So, y’know, don’t press play if you don’t want to know.
Deadwest: Howdy there, Scream Freaks! Wooowee! You won’t believe what’s been happening in the cemetery today! I was just catching some R&R before reviewing the next B-movie bomb for your displeasure, and everything suddenly went crazy! Bolts of lightnin’ tear’n through the air, winds whippin’ apart headstones, thunder louder than a sow in heat . . . pandemonium! After it simmered down, and the dust cleared, you won’t believe who I found in the middle of the carnage. None other than the multi-talented artist behind the special effects of the original Evil Dead film, Tom Sullivan!
In the 1980s and early 1990s, the three original Evil Dead films, created by writer-director Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell, made the careers of both men and became instant fan favorites. Over 30 years after the original film, Raimi and Campbell have re-teamed for a Starz cable TV series, Ash vs. Evil Dead, being filmed in Auckland, New Zealand. After she was brought in to work on the pilot, British makeup, hairstyling, and prosthetics designer Denise Kum engaged Raimi to develop the look of the Deadites, the main villainous characters Campbell battles in the project.
Easily one of the best new television series of this year is Ash vs Evil Dead which airs every Saturday night at 9:00pm EST/8:00pm CST on the Starz Network. The show follows iconic anti-hero Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) on more of his Deadite-related misadventures, but this time he’s got some company with him in the form of fellow co-workers Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana DeLorenza), as well as Amanda Fisher (Jill Marie Jones), a police detective who initially thinks Ash is a "bad guy" but quickly realizes he’s humanity’s last hope against the evil forces taking over.
Earlier this week, Daily Dead had the opportunity to chat with Jones about her character Amanda and how she has evolved in the series so far. Jones also discussed her initial thoughts on joining Ash vs Evil Dead, how her character has changed her as a performer and how Raimi revels in initiating all the cast in his own "blood ritual."
Even faced with mortal peril, Pablo makes sure to ask the big questions.

You got horror in my comedy! You got comedy in my horror! Stop — you're both right!
With the possible exception of Ghostbusters, the Evil Dead franchise is the greatest horror-comedy hybrid yet devised. On one side, you've got the physics-defying mayhem of Looney Tunes, the comic combat of the Three Stooges, and the jut-jawed hambone heroism of Dudley Do-Right. On the other, you have the power-tool slaughter of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, the reanimated relentlessness Night of the Living Dead, and the gross-out body-fluid splatter of The Exorcist. Somehow, Sam Raimi and his collaborators sussed out the common ground between them all, then cranked up the violence until it was funny and revved up the slapstick until it was scary.
Dean, Sam and Steve are joined by special guest Evil Dead 2 star Danny Hicks who played Jake.

And now a word from Joseph LoDuca, composer of the hit series ASH VS. EVIL DEAD on STARZ...
"I can’t tell you what a blast it is scoring Ash vs. Evil Dead. I was just out of college when I was introduced to Rob, Sam and Bruce in their “tree house” of an office space next door to a magic shop in Ferndale, Michigan. I had never written music for film, and I found these guys enormously entertaining, talented and driven. Plus they threw great parties. Hearing my music on the big screen for the first time was a turning point. Little did I know it would lead to a career largely as a result of their efforts.
So to see the three of them partnering together on the series, and to again sit in the music chair was coming full circle. I collaborated closely with Sam and Bob Murawski, his editor, on the score for the pilot. They attended the recording sessions, which really gave us the opportunity to finesse the details.
Our host Sabrina Safran sits down with Ash vs. Evil Dead star Dana DeLorenzo as she gives a more behind-the-scenes look to Starz's hit series, thanks fans, does some celebrity impressions and gives us her game plan for a zombie apocalypse.
Be sure to catch Dana and the rest of the cast of Ash vs. Evil Dead, Saturdays at 9PM only on Starz!
Sam and Steve are joined by special guest Evil Dead star Betsy Baker who played Linda in the original Movie.

Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead trilogy can proudly boast one the most fervent cult followings around. The original film launched the careers of both Raimi and his leading man Bruce Campbell—now a genuine cult legend—but it’s in the increasingly bonkers and hilarious sequels that each cemented their credentials as the overlords of the horror-comedy sub-genre. Well, grab your chainsaw, because the boys are back in town with Ash vs. Evil Dead!
Virgin Media have snapped up the UK rights to screen the series (it airs on STARZ in the U.S), which depicts the continuing adventures of Ashley J. Williams, as he has to again battle the forces of evil and prevent a plague of demons wiping out mankind. You can watch the first five episodes Virgin’s on-demand service right now, while the remaining episodes will be released weekly, in line with their U.S airdates.
And where better to host the UK premiere of the series than at The House of Detention—the creepy basement cellar/vault of a former 1800s prison, situated below the streets of Central London? Oh, and did we mention? The prison is haunted, too. Gulp.
The team behind Army of Darkness vs Marvel Zombies is back with more gory awesomeness. But this time, it's Army of Darkness vs DC Dead featuring a big guest spot from 'The Main Man' himself, Lobo. The full fan film drops December 25th.
This.
Looks.
GOREsome.
(And it’s a Virgin Media Exclusive)
