Actor Bruce Campbell rose to fame in the cult horror film series "The Evil Dead" and gained new fans on the hit TV show "Burn Notice." Campbell is just one of many celebrities in town for the event being held at the Convention Center through Sunday.
Multi-dimensional actor to appear at Wizard World Comic Con this weekend
Bruce Campbell has done a little bit of everything in his 40-plus year acting career. He’s starred as a nursing-home residing Elvis Presley (“Bubba Ho Tep”), a retired Navy Seal (“Burn Notice”) and even jolly old St. Nick (“The Librarians”).
But his most recognizable role remains that of the chainsaw-arm zombie killer Ash Williams in Sam Raimi’s “Evil Dead” franchise. Campbell will appear Saturday and Sunday at the Wizard World Comic Con at the Cleveland Convention Center to connect with fans and talk shop about his upcoming Starz series “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” as well as his illustrious career on both television and the silver screen.
Jill Marie Jones has been set as a lead opposite Bruce Campbell in Starz’s “Ash Vs Evil Dead,” the follow-up series to the Evil Dead horror pic franchise. The original series begins filming in the spring in New Zealand and 10 half-hour episodes will premiere on the network later this year.
The plot: After the grisly murder of her partner, disgraced Michigan State Trooper Amanda Fisher (Jones) sets out to find our anti-hero Ash (original franchise star Bruce Campbell) and prove his responsibility for the crime. But as she soon learns, Ash and his cohorts may be mankind’s only hope against the plague of Evil Dead.
Jones, repped by Global Artists Agency and Link Entertainment, is best known on TV for starring as Toni Childs in Girlfriends and also appeared in American Horror Story. She joins previously announced cast members Ray Santiago and Dana DeLorenzo.
Evil Dead co-hatcher Sam Raimi will direct the first episode he wrote with Ivan Raimi, Craig DiGregorio and Tom Spezialy. He also executive produces with Campbell and Rob Tapert; DiGregorio is executive producer/showrunner.
With the hotly anticipated television continuation of the Evil Dead film series “Ash vs. Evil Dead” in pre-production, we caught up exclusively this week with series executive producer and star Bruce Campbell, and fans can rejoice because the boomstick is back in a BIG way.
“We have a wonderful room of talented writers,” Campbell told us of the show, whose first episode will be directed by series originator Sam Raimi from a script he wrote with Ivan Raimi, Craig DiGregorio, and Tom Spezialy. Sam Raimi will also serve as series executive producer along with Rob Tapert and Campbell with DiGregorio to serve as executive producer/showrunner.
With ten episodes ordered, Campbell told us that principal photography is slated for this April in New Zealand with a planned Halloween 2015 series debut on Starz and promised of his portrayal of the horror icon he helped to create (spoilers follow), “I’m bringing everything to the table. It’s a feisty version of Ash, who’s grizzled and just wants to be left alone.”

Space Goat Productions, the nine-year-old comic book packaging and talent-management company, expands in May with its own monthly imprint: Space Goat Publishing. In addition to a number of unique, creator-driven titles, Space Goat will also be the home of the official Evil Dead 2 comic books based on the Bruce Campbell-Sam Raimi classic.
Ray Santiago (Touch, Meet the Fockers) and Dana DeLorenzo (Growing Up Fisher) will co-star in Starz's straight-to-series Ash vs. Evil Dead sequel, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Bruce Campbell will reprise his role as the title character Ash, a stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the past three decades avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons — personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its evil grip.
In the 10-episode half-hour series, Santiago (Bad Judge, Dexter) will co-star as Pablo Simon Bolivar, an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash's loyal sidekick — a Sancho Panza to Ash's Don Quixote. Pablo believes in Ash's heroism even if Ash himself doesn’t. He's repped by TalentWorks, Levity Entertainment and Ginsburg Daniels.
DeLorenzo (Californication, Sullivan & Son) is set as Kelly Maxwell, a moody wild child trying to outrun her past. Reluctantly dragged into the fight against Evil with Ash and Pablo, Kelly finds a different kind of family with her fellow Deadite slayers. She's repped by TalentWorks, 3 Arts and Ginsburg Daniels.
Set for a late 2015 premiere, production on Ash vs. Evil Dead will begin in the spring in New Zealand. Sam Raimi will direct the pilot, which he co-wrote with his brother, Ivan Raimi (Darkman, Army of Darkness, Drag Me to Hell), and Tom Spezialy (Chuck, Reaper, Desperate Housewives). Craig DiGregorio (Chuck) will exec produce and serve as the writing showrunner along with Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Campbell. Ivan Raimi will co-executive produce, while Aaron Lam (Spartacus) will produce.

Ellen Sandweiss (Cheryl Sister of Ash), Theresa Tilly (Shelly) und Betsy Baker (Linda Ashs girlfriend) told us about the surprising success of this movie, which is now considered a cult classic. An interesting retrospective. Especially right now where the Evil Dead Extended Cut aired on british tv (channel 4) and the Starz Series "Ash vs Evil Dead" will be produced it´s nice to go back to the bloody beginnings.
