Cult film icon Bruce Campbell takes his work, not show business, seriously

Interview excerpt regarding a followup to Evil Dead (2013):

“There is a very strong intent to do a part two. We just have to figure out a plan and idea and approach, that we hope will be in line with what the fans are going to enjoy,” he says. “You know, the only reason we did this in the first place, some people were very leery of it when it first came out, and we appreciate that, they’re very protective of the first series of movies, but we did this because Sam and I had been busy for years doing other stuff, and the demand is still there. So we’re like, ‘Well, let’s give ’em one. We don’t have time to actually be in one and for Sam to direct it, but we can still use our brains and our experience. We can maybe make another movie that will hopefully scare people, too.’ ”

So, yes, because the demand is probably even greater now, an Evil Dead 2 is in the works, one of the 10 films that Campbell says he’s involved in that are in various stages of development.

Cult hero Bruce Campbell coming to Fan Expo Vancouver | Metro

Interview Excerpt:
Campbell, who was made a cult icon for his role as the reluctant hero Ash in the Evil Dead franchise, said it’s a great opportunity to interact with his fans.

An impressive feat, given the amount of work that’s been piled on him lately.

“So I have this little board in front of me with about a dozen different things that are in different stages of development,” he said.

Anything with Sam Raimi, I dare ask? Something within the Evil Dead realm?

“There is stuff coming up,” he said. “We’re working on that too even as we speak.”

Info:
Ever want to see two of the biggest names in music discuss "Evil Dead The Musical". Here's a clip from Deadmau5's YouTube show "Coffee Run" where an unmasked Deadmau5 and Pharrell drink Tim Hortons and talk about Evil Dead The Musical. Deadmau5 seems to be a fan. Pharrell seems slightly less interested. But it's still cool.

Bruce Campbell comes to Fan Expo Vancouver

Cult movies go through cycles of popularity. Unless, that is, you are talking about the Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness.

The horror series trio conceived by director Sam Raimi, producer Robert Tapert and starring Bruce Campbell, 55, as the square-jawed anti-hero Ash had its debut in 1981. The sequels followed in 1987 and 1992.

None did bang up box office initially.

“Then they just kind of took off and kept going right to today,” says Campbell. “At no point in the history or development did we ever think it would work out the way it did, up to and including convincing a major studio – Universal – to get behind Army of Darkness. It’s the only big studio film I’ve ever done and, initially, it flopped.”

But the films did great video business as well as midnight screenings and seasonal party circuits. The DVDs followed the same path. New generations kept coming on board to watch a doofus take on the evil demonic undead of the Sumerian underworld and beyond.

‘Book of Ash’ from Lock it Down Productions

Info from www.horrorsociety.com:

Writing for a horror site has more perks than one will ever know. One of the biggest perks is knowing about an upcoming project before anyone else does. A few days ago producer David Langill sent me news of the upcoming film Book of Ash. This will mark the third time Langill has worked with director Jordan Pacheco. I was pretty pumped when I heard the news and was even more pumped when I saw the kick ass poster art (above). Langill asked me to keep this to myself until the right time…which is now.

Today I received the press release for the film which had some pretty big news. The film is as followed:

History major Audrey Barrows uncovers a ancient book with a dark past, “The Book of Ash”. Audrey discovers the ink used to write the ancient text is made from the ashes of human sacrifices. The deeper she delves into the book’s history, the more she loses her own soul.

The film will star Horror veterans Lynn Lowry (The Crazies), Timothy Patrick Quill (Army of Darkness, My Name is Bruce), and the grandfather of horror John Dugan (Grandpa in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre). The film will sure to entertain with the caliber of cast this one has.

No other news for the project has been reported yet but as soon as it is I will let all you know!
