Jane Levy, Bruce Campbell Talk Evil Dead Remake, Evil Trees

Very soon, filming will commence on The Evil Dead, Fede Alvarez's remake of the Sam Raimi film starring Bruce Campbell. Recently, the redo - which saw Diablo Cody coming in to make a few revisions to the script - faced a bit of a casting switcheroo.

Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror, Priest) dropped out and Jane Levy (pictured) stepped in.

The Insider spoke with the latter about the film and, after the jump, you'll find out what she had to say about the project and a brief, spoilery bit from Bruce Campbell himself.

eBay: Rarest Unused Evil Dead Promo Picture and Rare Evil Dead 2 Promo Ad

Info:

This is a VERY RARE UNUSED * EVIL DEAD * Promo Picture!

-Yes, I have was quite surprised when I found this! As many fans know, a few pics have been shot in the past, that were not taken from the actual film to then be used to promote the cult classic film by Sam Raimi entitled THE EVIL DEAD. But up to my knowledge, I have never seen this picture before...You can still see that they had "strapped" the skeleton hands onto the girl's legs, which would have logically been removed if the pic had been used.

-NOTE: ***This is a reproduction, reprinted digitally on solid glossy paper.

-You won't find this elsewhere in this form! A must for the true Evil Dead fan!

Rarity: You can see for yourself: just check out what is simply the most in-depth Evil Dead fan site and you will see that it is not even featured on it!

Info:

This is a RARE EVIL DEAD 2 * Promo Ad!

-Yes, this is a double page ad that was published in Daily Variety in 1984 (Hollywood's main entertainment business newspaper) when Sam Raimi & Co (Irvin Shapiro) were seeking financing to make a sequel to THE EVIL DEAD. As you can see, they already had the idea of putting the film in the medieval ages, even having the subtitle "Evil Dead and the Army of Darkness", and also having the balls of saying it was "in production"! As financing couldn't reach their goal, the team went on to "remake" their original film instead and introducing the medieval idea for a potential sequel at the end of the film.

-NOTE: ***This is a reproduction, reprinted digitally on strong glossy paper.

-You won't find this elsewhere in this form! A must for the true Evil Dead fan! AND I know, because I am the one who actually unearthed this piece back in the late 1990's.

I had to run through archival microfilms of the publication, reconstructed the image and corrected it. After tons of research and having personally contacted the proper Variety people, I was informed that they couldn't find back issues of the daily publications (at least from that time anyway)...

Having the original image would have made for a better transfer, but this is the best you will get.

-I have sold a few back in the day and have just recently seen I had another one left in my things, so I'm putting it up since it made me though of it when I found another rare pic promo pic of ED 1, which you can find HERE!

Rarity: A small pic has surfaced (with the wrong date), probably from a fan or the webmaster on the the most in-depth Evil Dead fan site:

Lou Taylor Pucci in talks for 'Evil Dead'

"Thumbsucker" star Lou Taylor Pucci is in talks to join the young ensemble of FilmDistrict and Mandate Pictures' reboot of "The Evil Dead."

Jane Levy ("Suburgatory") and Shiloh Fernandez ("Red Riding Hood") were recently cast in the pic, which is a reinvention of Sam Raimi's 1981 cult classic about a group of teens at a remote cabin who discover a Book of the Dead that unleashes demons they can't control. While the new plot is similar to the original, it is a new take that doesn't include the Ash character played by Bruce Campbell.

Pucci will play Eric, an intense academic whose intellectual curiosity gets him and his friends into trouble.

Jane Levy Lands The Lead In 'Evil Dead' Remake

With Lily Collins out of the picture, Fede Alvarez's upcoming "Evil Dead" remake was lacking a female lead. But today, the film announced two big casting decisions. Jane Levy from ABC's "Suburgatory" joined the film as Collins' replacement. Additionally, Variety is reporting that Shiloh Fernandez will be one of the five friends holed up in a cabin facing demonic forces let loose on the world. The flick is pegged for an April 12, 2013 release.

Fernandez to haunt 'Evil Dead'

"Red Riding Hood" star Shiloh Fernandez is venturing back into the woods to star in FilmDistrict and Mandate's "Evil Dead" reboot, and will also topline "Deep Powder" for Killer Films.

The "Evil Dead" role was highly sought after by young actors.

Helmed and penned by Fede Alvarez, the pic is a reinvention of the 1981 cult classic about a group of teens who holed up in a remote cabin who discover a Book of the Dead that unleashes demons they cannot control.

Though the plot is similar to the original, the idea is a new take, this time without the character of Ash.

Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell will produce through Raimi's Ghost House Pictures banner.

Project was announced in November in a worldwide deal (excluding the U.K. and France) between Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions, FilmDistrict and Ghost House Pictures. Sony Pictures will distribute.

Now that the male lead is set, the search is on for the female lead, as Lily Collins fell out after scheduling conflicts.
