HorrorMovieNews.net: 30 Years of the Evil Dead

It’s been thirty years since Sam Rami’s cult classic “The Evil Dead” was unleashed onto the movie-going public. Since then, there have been sequels, comics, and even a musicals produced. What made this quirky 1981 low budget horror film a classic? Was it the memorable death scenes, the infamous “tree” scene, or maybe it was Bruce Campbell’s crazy, often maniacal facial expressions? Whatever the case, “The Evil Dead” has held a special place in horror fan’s hearts for thirty years now.

Aradani Costumes: Ash from Army of Darkness

A few years ago for Halloween, I decided that it was about time for someone to make a great Ash costume. The Evil Dead movies and Army of Darkness are such influential movies, yet I had never really seen a good version at any science fiction convention or anything. I figured that I have the body type, and with a quick black dye job, I could easily pull off a Bruce Campbell. So I sat down, drew up some plans, and here is the step-by-step for anyone that wants to do the same.

The Playlist: Bruce Campbell Says ‘Evil Dead’ Remake Script Is “Awesome,” He Might Have A Role In It

A remake or sequel to Sam Raimi‘s cult favorite “The Evil Dead” has been knocking around for years now, moving in fits and starts but never really getting anywhere. And while we’re probably not much closer to it, fans can’t help but ask about the film anytime Bruce Campbell or Raimi hit the press circuit. Back in January, the Guardian reported that Raimi’s longtime producing partner Rob Tapert said, “we’re looking at a script this month. What’s interesting about ‘Evil Dead’ is very few people saw it in the format we made it for, which is for the [movie] theater. I think Sam wants to embrace the ultimate experience in grueling terror.”

Well, it turns out not only is that script finished, but Bruce Campbell has read it, and while he won’t be reprising the role of Ash, he’s already eyeing a part. In an interview with Reddit to promote the “Burn Notice” spinoff movie “The Fall Of Sam Axe,” Campbell took on fan questions and inevitable, the topic of “Evil Dead” came up.

“NEWSFLASH: We are remaking ‘Evil Dead.’ The script is awesome. I will be one of the producers and possibly play the milk man,” Campbell announced to fans.

Bruce Campbell Talks to Fans on Reddit, Solidifies Coolness

Bruce Campbell -- star of the 'Evil Dead' trilogy, 'Spider-Man' cameos and TV's 'Burn Notice' -- is a god among men. The rare square-jawed, charming actor who seems almost too good to be true.

But for all those who don't believe that Campbell can plausibly exist, you'll be pained to know that he has done yet another cool thing to add the Cool Things Bruce Campbell Does list by having a day-long Q&A with his fans today on the Internet. Those who know Reddit, the community message board and news-sharing site where users can debate, spar and vote for "what's good and what's junk," probably already know that Bruce participated in an AMA.

What is an AMA? An AMA is an "Ask Me Anything," and, as of several hours ago, he has been available to answer such questions from Redditors as "At what point did you realize you had become a cult icon?" and "Does it hurt to be so awesome?" To celebrate this momentous day in Bruce Campbell history, here Moviefone's favorite responses from Mr. Ash Williams himself.

'Evil Dead' iPad and iPhone Shooter Game Launching

The deal between Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert's Ghost House and Trigger Apps marks one of the early attempts at giving fans of a classic movie something fresh in the digital age, while also providing a chance to make additional revenue off it.

NEW YORK -- Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert's Evil Dead is getting a new life in the form of an iPhone and iPad game that will bring the gore and campy humor of the cult classic film into the digital age.

Ghost House Pictures has partnered with Trigger Apps, part of digital marketing firm Trigger, to launch a paid iPhone and iPad game app for the film from the production label's co-founders. It is one of the early attempts at keeping fans in touch with and making additional revenue off classic movies, which some predict will become a growing business. It also can help classics find new fans.

"This is the first time we've taken an older franchise and re-created it," said Jason Yim, president of Trigger. "A lot of filmmakers we have talked to are interested in doing something similar."

Trigger and other companies have mostly focused on current releases to date, such as Green Hornet and The Karate Kid, whose number of downloads to date is in the seven figures, according to Yim.

The Evil Dead app, which will be available for $2.99 for the iPhone and $4.99 for the iPad (once Apple approves it in the coming weeks), is an action-heavy 3D shooter game that allows players to take control of Bruce Campbell's character Ash to lead his group of friends to safety while fighting off evil zombies.

"Sam, Bruce and I have always been interested in finding ways to bring our 1980's Evil Dead into the digital age," said Tapert. "And taking this first step with Trigger has been a great experience."
