iancurtisdrone writes:
Game Warehouse is proud to present the 1st annual Horror Fest, October 17th.

For the first time in this area, we are hoping to start a new festival to add to the amazing festivals already established in Kalamazoo. While this festival will not be as large, we hope with a great turnout, and community support, this festival can only grow, and become a staple in the festival season.

Cast from the classic horror film Evil Dead will be at Game Warehouse from 10-5 to sign memorabilia and take pictures with fans. During this time, we will also have Zombies, a booth to get zombie makeup, and the cast from the Whole Art Theatre hit Evil Dead The Musical.

At 7:30, the cast from Evil Dead will have a Q&A. It will be a great time to learn even more about your favorite character from the hit movie, as well as find out what they have been up to since the movie.

Brian Altano and Brian Miggels write:
Celebrities can't possibly get away with everything they get away with without some sort of cheat device, right? Cocaine strategy guides? The liquor and Lamborghini version of a Game Genie? Whatever it is, it seems like there are cheat codes everywhere in the real world. But don't take our word for it, let the stars do the talking.

Sam Raimi Producing Refuge With Mandate

Sam Raimi has signed on to produce the supernatural horror flick Refuge based on a pitch from up-and-coming British director Corin Hardy. The project has been set up at Mandate, where Raimi's Ghost House Pictures has a deal.

Refuge centers on a remote town terrorized by a Yeti, the mythological creature native to the mountains of the Himalayas. Hardy will direct from a script by fellow British writer Tom De Ville. Jason Blum, Nathan Kahane and Steven Schneider are also attached to produce.

Bruce Campbell Says Evil Dead 4 Probably a Remake

For years, Evil Dead 4 has been speculated about, hinted at, and even confirmed (more or less) by Evil Dead's writer-director Sam Raimi, who said he would force Bruce Campbell to return. However, Campbell says he likely won't return, telling About.com that when it comes to Evil Dead 4, "We're probably going to do a remake." And Campbell's fine with a remake of Evil Dead?

I am because we're going to just try and make it scary, you know? We want to make it a scary movie with technology that we can now finally use where you don't see garden hoses spewing fake blood.

Campbell says they will hold on to the Evil Dead spirit: "Well, this will still be fun, too. It will." It may even be retain some of the campy nature of the original trilogy, though Campbell does say nothing is set in stone.

It depends on how we do it. We're still trying to decide what we're going to do, what the approach is.

Tom Sullivan Interview

Brian Kirst writes:
Tom Sullivan is probably best known for his fun and organic effects work for the Evil Dead films. (With his designs for the Book of the Dead seemingly coming straight from the haunted forest itself.) After working behind the scenes of the big budget The Fly II and on other assorted projects, the versatile Sullivan has been recently creeping to the other side of the camera appearing as an actor in projects like the well-reviewed slasher-comedy Splatter Movie and the upcoming independent horror flick Dog. While prepping for his first directing experience with The Last Ghost Story (which he also scripted), Sullivan recently took a moment to answer some tongue-torn-out-of-cheek questions for Horror Society.

The Devil Made Her Do It: 666 Girls on Film

SCARIEST!

Michael Adams writes:
Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss) -- The Evil Dead (1981)

In a film that's filled with terrifying moments, it's the first demonic possession that lingers. Here's the thing: if you and your friends are in a creepy cabin in the woods and you find a tape with some old guy rambling about "The Book Of The Dead, bound in human flesh and inked in human blood", you pretty much press "stop" before he gets to the bit where he starts reciting occult invocations. If you've been dumb enough to keep listening to that point, you definitely don't go out in the woods to investigate when you hear a spooky disembodied voice saying "Join us...". But that's exactly what Cheryl -- short-lived sister to franchise hero Ash -- does, leading to her infamous rape by devil vines. Soon after, while her friends and brother try to guess which cards are being plucked from a deck, Cheryl is possessed by a Kandarian demon. It's what we hear -- her sudden psychic ability ("Eight of spades! Two of spades! Jack of Diamonds, Jack of clubs!") that sets the spine tingling. And then she turns around.

Army of Darkness: Screwhead Edition Blu-ray Review

Phil Pirrello
writes:
Everyone should have heard of Army of Darkness by now. If not, you've been living under a rock. On Mars. With your eyes shut and your hands over your ears.

For the uninitiated, Army of Darkness it's the third movie in the Evil Dead series, the brainchild of Sam Raimi. The first two Evil Dead movies are horror classics, but this one is a comedy splatter fest made by geeks, for geeks and fans of all things good and guilty pleasure.

Tight-Lipped Whedon on Cabin in the Woods

shocktillyoudrop.com writes:
Here's what we know: A Cabin in the Woods trailer is in the works. And our sources tell us it looks very cool and very Evil Dead-ish.

Things, per usual, have been very quiet since a handful of teaser posters were revealed at Comic-Con in July. Co-writer and producer Joss Whedon has a bite-sized update on the film, however.

He tells Sci-Fi Wire, post-production is coming along nicely. And in regards to the trailer: "We're talking about what they're going to show, and they'll start giving up some information to get people into the theaters. We're working on that now. Should be soon."

Bruce Campbell Confirms His 'Spider-Man 4' Role, Filming Set for January 2010

Elisabeth Rappe writes:
Given the long and fruitful friendship of Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, it should really come as no surprise that Campbell is going to be in Spider-Man 4. What could be surprising is how much screen time he might earn this time around.

Campbell told Access Hollywood that Spider-Man 4 is set to begin shooting January 2010, and that he's been told by Raimi that he has "a major part. The kicker is that the well-chinned actor knows not what that role might be. Access Hollywood immediately began speculating that he'll be stepping into the villain's shoes, and says fans are touting him for Mysterio.

A bloody good time - Whole Art's `Evil Dead' has fun with Raimi's gory cult films - Kalamazoo, MI

Mark Wedel writes:
Director Randy Wolfe sat down in a Whole Art office, dried blood on his chin and splattered on his white shirt.

He didn't seem to notice until it was pointed out. ``Oh, yeah. I had to test it,'' Wolfe said. There are various types of stage blood used in theater, some not fit for consumption. But this tasted ``like Captain Morgan,'' he said jokingly.

This will likely be the first Whole Art production where the stage will need a full cleaning crew after each act, Wolfe said. So much blood.

Details:
``Evil Dead: The Musical,'' Whole Art Theatre, Thursday and Friday nights, Sept. 18-Oct. 10, 8 p.m. Not recommended for children due to violence and language. $20, $15 for seniors, $10 students. (269) 345-7529.

Matt Gamble writes:
From what little I know the Plaza Maplewood Theatre is typically a second run theatre, but that hasn’t stopped them from booking a fantastic triple bill in November. That triple bill being the entire Evil Dead Trilogy, back-to-back-to-back. In case you are wondering, yes, they will be in order with what I assume will be very short breaks in between the films. Screening starts at 9pm, so expect to be there until the wee hours of the morning.

Infini-Tropolis Feature: Evil Dead The Musical - An in-depth look at the horror musical

rm237 writes:
There was a moment midway through the hilarious and gore-soaked production of Evil Dead: The Musical that I realized something, if not profound, then perhaps a little humbling. That quasi-epiphany was this: the Evil Dead phenomenon; a franchise so dear to my heart (and indeed, the hearts of horror fans the world over) has morphed into such a deeply-rooted aspect of popular culture that it has become more about the spirit of the idea than anything to do with the films themselves. Evil Dead has transcended the genre. Hell, it has transcended film altogether.

It also influenced me to want to become a director. I am working to pursue this field!
