HEY, MR. RAIMI, WHAT'S UP WITH EVIL DEAD?

This one deserves it's own header. When Raimi took the stage in Hall H to promote Drag Me To Hell, he inevitably faced an audience question about further Evil Dead collaboration with Bruce Campbell. His response was (vaguely) surprising.

"That's in the wheelhouse. I'd like to work on it with my brother Ivan when he comes up next week."

You could almost smell minor waves of 'holy shit!' rolling across the hall. Predictably, that quote made the rounds as 'Evil Dead 4 coming!!!!!11!OMG!'.

So I asked Raimi about his true intention when he was cornered on the press line a while later.

"Well, he's coming to town and we're going to talk about that, if he's got time to work on the script. Don't really have a next project lined up right now, and we'll end up writing about two or three pages of it, as we always do, and then work on something else. I really need to see this picture, get a first cut in, I want him to tell me what didn't work, where we have to fix it, where we have to tighten it up…I really need his input."

In other words, more Evil Dead is in the same place it's always been: a cool idea, but hardly a priority. It remains squarely in talking cat territory.

Comic Con: Sam Raimi's Drag Me To Hell!

The movie in question is Sam Raimi’s return to the horror genre with a flick called Drag Me To Hell. He showed up at the San Diego Comic Con with his cast in tow. Horror Machismo: Bruce Campbell

For the first edition of Horror Machismo we had to choose somebody who is not just a bad ass but also a witty f*cker. He kicks ass, takes names and will even steal your woman. He is Bruce Campbell but most of us know him as ASH.

Bruce Campbell is the man and no matter what film hes in whether its Evil Dead, Army of Darkness or Man with the Screaming Brain or Alien Apocalypse he delivers machismo, funny one liners and buckets of fun.

COMIC-CON 2008: Sam Raimi, Drag Me To Hell Panel

Part One:

Part Two:

In Part Two, Sam Raimi states he was going to do a bit with Bruce Campbell for the movie. However, Bruce being "under contract" and scheduling conflicts (Bruce shooting "Burn Notice") prevented him from appearing in the movie. "The Classic", Mr. Raimi's 1973 yellow Oldsmobile Delta 88, does appear in the movie.

My Name Is Bruce (Official Slightly Extended Trailer)

This trailer is 6 seconds longer than other versions currently up and the music seems to be different. This came with an Enchanced CD that was given to attendees at the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con who were able to meet Bruce Campbell(me!) at his Dark Horse Booth.

Source: www.youtube.com - JoeNostalgiaReturns

SDCC '08: Mark Verheiden's 'My Name Is Bruce' News

DARK HORSE PANEL: We showed some clips of MY NAME IS BRUCE to a packed and wildly appreciative crowd, followed by an appearance by Mr. Campbell himself. Who proceeded to deliver a riotous series of bon mots in response to audience questions, and even gave an especially vociferous fan $2.00 for a high compliment. I sat mutely on stage and watched the master at work. I think the only real way to describe the event is... "groovy."

Dark Horse had the BRUCE trailer on a continuous loop down at their booth, and since BRUCE was shot in high-def, it looks friggin' amazing! Prints are currently being struck and Bruce himself intends to tour 20 to 30 cities this Fall, so keep your eyes peeled for MY NAME IS BRUCE at a theater near you! (Assuming, as Bruce said, you live near a major metropolitan area!)

Evil Dead 4 - Sequel Plans

Direct from Sam Raimi’s mouth - next week his brother Ivan is visiting and Sam would like to start work on Evil Dead 4.

That’s what we just heard here at Comic-Con 2008.

“I’d love to make another Evil Dead picture. And actually that’s in the wheelhouse. I’d like to work on it with my brother Ivan [Raimi] when he comes up next week.”

And he would like to work with Bruce Campbell again - He said he wants to test Bruce’s pain tolerance. Awesome! Does this mean he’s offering him the lead? Not yet. But something is brewing.

Geeks and horror-lovers, let’s hope this makes it all the way to fruition.

Legend of the Seeker (Wizard's First Rule) Trailer

Well, the big news to come out of the Wizard's First Rule panel was that the series is not going to be called Wizard's First Rule. The new title is Legend of the Seeker. Why? Well, according to panelists and author Terry Goodkind the name change was made to focus on the hero of the book itself rather than the main book of the series.

Evil Dead 2 Vestron Video International Trailer

Thanks to VestronDan!

Sam Raimi's Fear is Real

We wrote about Sam Raimi's new series 13: Fear is Real a couple months ago. Now we've seen the first preview that The CW shared with journalists at the Television Critics Association event in Beverly Hills.

First thing you'll notice is the Jigsaw (from Saw) styled voice telling you the premise of the show, as if he were a diabolical serial killer rounding up the 13 victims. The reality show contestants are bussed into the Louisiana Bayou and "killed off" one by one. The title sequence had the obligatory ominous industrial music and the titles with the skipping shutter effect.

AOD S-Mart Ending - Have You Ever Noticed?

Haha, something funny I picked up last night while watching this that I'd never noticed before...

In the S-Mart ending, look at the right hand side of the frame, as the camera tracks in from the Deadite to Ash in the last "Hail to the king baby" shot; standing there is none other than Bridget Fonda as Linda, even though she's obviously meant to died at the beginning of the film! Guess they really were desperate for extras, which accounts for William Lustig and Bernard Rose hovering around in the background as S-Mart customers...

Bruce Campbell in New Hellboy Game

I just got an email with this bit of info:

Just a heads up - it appears Bruce is the voice of Lobster Johnson, "the secret character", in the new Hellboy game (The Science Of Evil) that's just being released on various platforms. Guillermo Del Toro issued a cryptic statement about someone doing a voice in the game that he hopes to have reprise the character in Hellboy III should it get made, and Bruce's presence has been confirmed by quite a few people who have played the game so far.

Thanks to James!

MY NAME IS BRUCE - Bruce Campbell Blabs

It's been awhile since I reported on the long-awaited (at least by me, since I wrote it!) feature release MY NAME IS BRUCE. But last I heard, we're still on track for some theatrical play this October, then a DVD release in January 2009. Of course I have about as much influence over that as I do the temperature, so "changes may occur"... but that was the last best plan. There may be other, better plans, and if I learn of them, I will bring them to your attention post-haste!

Meanwhile, star/director Mr. Bruce Campbell himself chit-chatted about the movie and his role on Burn Notice with the folks at Fangoria. The result can be found at:
